So... they need a RT then. I know this may be a bit of a side-step, but thoughts on potentially Tag & Trading Moton?

I'll just come out and say I'm not educated on how Brown compares to Moton (who is as much a must-keep as any FA we have). So just pitching this for discussion's sake. And for some self-education.

Here is how this could be very smart:

There are at least 2 elite RTs in this draft (Jenkins, OkSt and Mayfield, Mich). I would add that others could do the job.

So instead of spending $$$ on a RT and drafting a LT, Draft the RT and spend $$$ on the LT.

If you are drafting a QB, you want the experienced blind side talent on the left.  Tevin Jenkins could start right now.

Ok-let's say we sign a free agent QB or get one in a trade.  Now you can trade BACK with the first rounder, possibly acquiring a future first round pick.  You draft the RT, use the first rounder for next year's draft to move up in the event the QB does not work out.

I'd rather keep Moton. He's the better OT.

I'd be willing to bet that Brown is trying to renegotiate his contract now. The talk of LT only puts him out there in an area with tons of suitors, but his performance at RT makes him very valuable to the Ravens, particularly their QB-heavy run game that leans heavily on his side of the field.

Brown is on the books to them next year for a very, very cheap $3.6 million (about 2% of their cap space). The team absolutely stole him in the third round of the 2018 draft and they've made him into a Pro Bowl tackle (alternate, but still...).

If we could get him, that'd be great, but the Ravens won't let him go.

I hope we sit out of the QB derby and draft other offensive positions, particularly the linemen, in the first three rounds and build a crazy talented, super young offensive line that can grow together and create a solid perimeter around whoever our QB turns out to be. An elite QB is squandered on a team with poorly built lines.

    • Blind squirrels and all… he occasionally gets a lane and can operate.    I don’t think he can make his living there and it is why I didn’t  think we should invest a whole lot into trying to develop that part of the offense. Like with a highly drafted TE.  I feel like with him, it is super simple; you need to make running the ball your strong suit. TEs that can block. A big OL. I am concerned about the RB room there is a lot riding on Brooks. But a great RB room. If those things aren’t strengths it will not have a chance of working. Then you need to take the downfield shots which have been missing for most of three years, maybe every down isn’t defended like we are in red zone. Because that is what teams do to us.
    • Pretty sure that a QB contract payday is all the competition any QB in this league needs, I don't think a competent backup is going to make them play any harder when the current situation wouldn't warrant the contract extension yet anyways. Your opening point in this post is also the problem, "Bryce has shown signs of improving", but that's still all he's shown, and he's only showing that because of just how bad he was to start his career. If he played like last season from the beginning and never improved one bit, then I actually think more fans would be ready to move on from him, which is what's weird.  It's like going from one of the biggest draft busts of all time into the 25th best QB in the league over 3 years means he deserves a long term $40+ million a year contract extension. Improvement shouldn't be the goal when the result of said improvement is still bottom of the league levels.
    • Yeah, but we've seen him do it. Just not often. I think that's the reason for the taller WRs. Would likely be a problem finding someone like Jimmy Horn in the mess.
