Fitterer needed to call Douglas regardless.

It’s good for Fitterer to know where they stand with Darnold and if that 2nd pick is for sale

Bingo.  And he needs to call Detroit and see what they want for Goff, since they pick before us.  If you have some idea of the asking price, you can possibly gauge what they are thinking.

Just now, Mr. Scot said:

It's been mentioned before, but "in on every deal" was always likely to include some that fans aren't gonna like.

i guess it’s better than the mid-late 2000s days when they wouldn’t touch any player on the trading block bc “we build through the draft”, “we have 21 of 22 starters returning from our 8-8 team last year”, “there’s no place in our offense for a TE that doesn’t have bricks for hands”, etc.

It's good to be involved in all of these QB situations. Think about how many times over the years under Marty we'd hear about some player we wanted getting traded for way less than we could have offered, or better trades that we didn't even show interest in.

Also, it's a great way to find out who else is involved and what kind of capital they're playing with. I think about what Rhule said about the GM interview process...how he would have paid for the information he got from all of those interviews. They're collecting data, and I love it.

What do we know about Darnold?  He was good in college, has struggled for 3 years in NY.  Threw too many interceptions, but when you are one-dimensional, always playing from behind, passing is tougher. He will be 24, and he is on a first-round rookie contract for 1 more season.

So what would he do with a better coach, OL, running game, and defense?

Better.

Is better enough?

I wouldn't even offer them a half eaten ham sandwich for Goff.

I looked it up and he threw 26 TDs and 13 INTs in 14 games in his last year at USC including 2 INTs in each of the first 3 games. For his career at USC he had 22 INTs in 27 games (24 starts).

And playing for Gase cannot be understated. That man could turn a diamond into coal.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
    • Totally possible imo, I also caught that snippet from Morgan where he said “If” we sign him. The lack of competition says otherwise tho 🤷‍♂️
