If this isn't the year...

Well I'm happy for the people who will be excited for the Panthers in 2021 if we trade multiple picks for Fields (or Wilson or whoever). But if they end up busting or even being in the range of someone like Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones, cause let's be honest, that's FAR more likely than them becoming elite franchise-changing qbs, suddenly we're no better off than we were with Teddy and now out multiple additional picks, making our future even bleaker. So good for you being all excited for 2021 only to ultimately be down and out on the team in 2022 AND 2023. Great trade off.

I for one am not ruling out any option here. There's more than one way to build up the team than get a new qb right this second. We could invest heavily in the offensive line, get back a healthy CMC, probably make Teddy look half way decent to something along a 9-7 season and then throw our chips in the middle a la Kansas City for our franchise qb in 2022. You're telling me us competing for a playoff spot will make you tune out all season? If so, I feel sorry for you. Our team needs to upgrade a lot more than 1 position. So far we've made plenty of smart offseason decisions with plenty of cap space and some exciting young pieces to build around but plenty of work left to do. I'm not going to apologize for not throwing a temper tantrum if they don't mortgage the future for one player and actually focus on making the most competitive team possible. But to each his own.

I don't mind if we don't get a QB this offseason.  It'd be preferred but not the end of the world.  This team is in a great position in 2022.

I'd only be mad if we replaced Teddy with a marginal, 'decent' improvement.  If it ain't a franchise QB then stick with Teddy Bridgewater.

Same ish with Cam.  I 100% understood releasing him.  The problem was replacing him with Teddy.  Why not just stick with Cam at that point?

Same thing here.  Don't get rid of Teddy just to replace him with another mediocre QB.  You either go after a guy like Watson or someone in the draft who you think can be a franchise QB, or you stick with Teddy.

Like Jimmy G.

I think you try to build a team as efficiently as possible, spending your assets (cap room/players in trade/picks/etc) as wisely as you are able. If we're able to get a QB we want to build around without being careless, I'm all for it. But sometimes doing nothing is the winning move when considering the big picture/long game.

I confess, acceptance of another year with Bridgewater was not an option I considered 🤔

That’s kind of where I’m at now. Try to fix all the holes. A lot of our holes seem to line up with strong positions in this draft - of course that is easy to say when you need 1/3 of a roster.

I kept earmarking late round QBs that could possibly develop behind teddy but every time I do, they return to school. We may not have any other option besides teddy unless we do something reckless and dumb.
I like Rattler but it would also seem that there should be a bunch of QBs next year with several returning for 2021.

We got to get a franchise Quarterback this upcoming season. Even if we roll with mediocre Teddy Sewerwater we probably won't be picking at #8 next year. More like #15. Matt Rhule and his staff will have a year under their belt, and they will improve. The Panthers have a better GM than dumbass Hurney so the talent on the team will be much better.  The Panthers will win more games than last season. So the time is NOW to get a franchise QB.

Months before it happened I called that the worst case scenario of squandering the release of Cam would be by signing an absolute lead balloon like Teddy Twoyards, naming him specifically.  It was my biggest fear that Hurney and the new coaches would be conned into thinking that with their swagger and huge egos, that they could take this career loser and turn him into a playoff QB at only 60% the cost and get one over the rest of the league.  Like the braggadocios wannabe lady killer who thinks he just needs to get a lesbian into bed to turn her straight.

Of course it was a clear and obvious failure as just about all but the majority saw coming.

This year's worst case scenario would be throwing good money after bad by making the Jimmy G and Teddy T.Y swap that has been rumored.

Well, I would definitely be disappointed but I do trust Rhule and company. I think it's important to get a QB this offseason because it's by far our best opportunity with a high draft pick along with a loaded QB class at the top (and the rare case of an elite franchise QB potentially being available via trade). Even if we roll with Teddy I could see us being a fringe playoff team as soon as next year and we may not have a top 10 pick any time soon, and future QB classes will not be this stacked. If we can't get Watson I think we need to do whatever it takes to get one of the top 4 QBs in this draft. If other teams go crazy and the QBs all go in the top 4 and the price is insane to trade up, so be it. But I highly highly doubt that'll be the case.

QB or bust. Yes, I would be upset if we didn’t get a QB this offseason.
Next years QB crop looks bad to meh. I would say this team has no chance to get the maybe one good QB in next years draft but if Teddy starts for us again and we are still young on offense and defense we could actually draft in the top 5 or 10 next year.

You're mad we might throw our chips in the middle this year, but then it's okay the next year based on the hope we draft well this year? Then we trade in 2022 coming off a better record, and higher cost to get a rookie QB?  The Chiefs went from 27 to 10 at the cost of an extra first rounder and 3rd.  Imagine the cost if they would've had to get into the top 5 in a QB heavy draft like this one.

This year, for us to go from 8 to 3...it might cost an extra first rounder and a 3rd? What's it matter if we do it this year or next? If we have a guy we like, go get him. In your same scenario ala Kansas City on a better team, we could still draft Darnold or Daniel Jones (at a higher cost) and lock our 9-7 team into mediocrity or worse.  Whether this year or next year, the team is going to have holes. How many teams are "set", have drafted well for years, AND THEN go draft their QB like the Chiefs did?  Not exactly a blueprint we can follow anyway when all we would have to do is draft one of the most talented QBs of all time that others pass on, sit him a year, and have him come in throwing no look TDs.  The Chiefs are an outlier, not a plan.

As much as I want to trade the farm for a new franchise QB for next year just to not see Teddy out there I am starting to think it may be a year to early.  Getting a new QB this year is looking to be VERY expensive when it comes to draft capitol since so many teams are in the market when we are sitting in a great spot to improve our team in multiple positions.

At 8 we can possibly get the top O-Line or top CB or even trade back a few spots and instantly make our team better since there is a great possibility that 4 picks before us may go QB when the other prospects are ranked higher.  Being such a great draft for lineman we could even use our first 2 picks and have our line set up for years to come after extending Moton.

We are sitting in a position where we can beef up our team and either trade up next year and get our guy or go after another QB when hopefully it does not cost as much and have a much better team set up around them.

Actually having coaches in place that can actually coach for the fist time ever on this team in my opinion is what is leading me to think this way.  I would just hate to trade away so much to get the 3rd or 4th best QB in this draft when we can get top position guys that will fall to us and are rated higher

Mahomes got drafted into what was potentially the greatest situation ever for where he was drafted.  A great team that lacked a QB with ballz and a coach that knows how to coach a QB.  Alex Smith was a good QB for them but he was not going to take the chances that are needed to propel a team to greatness.

We can be that next team to accomplish this if we are patient another year and build our team up before throwing a rookie on a team with so many holes.

I mean if we can put an OL in front of him and have brady update his schemes. its more of a boost in my eyes using all our picks to start filling out the roster this year than crippling ourselves for 3-4 years to come. If we suck ass than go for Howell next year and we can cut teddy without cap issues. If we do good but not great then find your trade QB now that you know all the pieces around them are in place and they won't get killed one way or another.

Can't suck ass for Howell with Teddy in place. I don't want to see Teddy on the roster this year. If we can somehow save $18M by trading him, it's well worth it. Heck even to save $8M, I'd be OK with it.

I'd either like Watson (if not too ridiculous) or a rookie QB. If not, I'd rather try Grier and PJ and shoot for a top 2022 draft pick. We had the perfect shot in 2020 and we blew it. Having pick 8-15 again puts us in the same place as this off season just another year later.
