Houston will let Watson rot

This is all about egos.  Think from the Texan's GM perspective.  "Former GM Coach Bill O'Brien traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals for next to nothing.  Fans pissed.  Watson pissed.  Texans let JJ Watt walk. Fans pissed, Watkins pissed.  Watson asks for trade.  Texans front office now must deal with the reality that they let 3 superstars slip through their fingers if they trade Watson.  WR and DL are one thing--a franchise QB is another. New coach, try to work it out.  Play hard ball if you have to.  Whatever you do, make it appear that you tried everything in your power to keep him.   The optics are important.  In the mean time, you are reading about the bounty of picks you will get for him, so you listen, because you dont know where this is headed.

Yep.

This is all ego.

Texans organization has to look like they give a damn, so right now they’re playing hardball. When it’s all said and done, Watson will be traded and Houston will get their boatload of draft picks. Everyone just needs to be patient.

I think all the interested parties know his trade is inevitable, as well. The rest is just posturing.

If I were the Texans, I'd trade him for Trevor Lawrence and more draft picks..  Get him on the rookie contract,  ( " generational quarterback " )  and Let the new coach start with Trevor.

He'd still be in the AFC though...  So he's coming to C A R O L I N A  ..  ( fingers crossed )

The Jags have no incentive to make that deal. They aren't going to set up a division rival like that.

Not going to set them up, and not going to let them off the hook. Right now they can build around Lawrence whole watching their division rival lose it all.

I’ve read a lot of tweets from reporters saying the big reason they won’t trade him is the cap hit they will take in doing so. Don’t know how a team could make that easier on them in a trade but it will be interesting to see.

Yeah they are not in a good cap situation and I’m sure the dead cap hit would be RIDICULOUS since he just signed that deal. But if you’re trading away your franchise qb you’re in rebuilding mode. So you basically just wipe this next season away and cut everything you possibly can and get your cap in order for the future while you build through the draft/plus any rookie contract players you acquire.

It isn't possible to make it easier on them. The salary cap rules are what they are. If it's the cap they are worried about, then they will most likely trade him post-June 1st but the cap hit would still be astronomical.

$21 million dead cap.

Took the Rams trade but stayed put at 52 and at the top of the 3rd.
