True, seems like he just can’t win with the fans. Kept cam on the bench hoping he’d heal for 2+ years without a second thought about investing in a new QB, then was berated by fans saying he did Cam wrong.

Would've been nice to move on earlier. Same can be said with Rivera and Hurney.

I’ll chalk that up to his learning curve, but it still doesn’t mean landing a QB won’t take time. Hope he keeps his head in the game, getting desperate results in bad moves....I mean that’s why we have TB.

We had TB, he is going to be gone.

Not true. If Mac is truly butthole then we could turn around and draft a good QB the next season much like the cardinals did recently. The rookie pay scale makes it much easier to move on from bad QB's drafted in the first round.

My greater fear is that Mac Jones is a younger Teddy. Good enough to not lose some games, but not good enough to win any, putting us back into QB purgatory, and with one less first round talent on the team when we move on from him in 2 to 3 years.

I don't think Jones is so bad he gets instantly replaced... in fact I could see him having quite a Dalton-like career.

Jones isn't Teddy. Teddy is actually more NFL skilled than Jones is(stronger arm, far better athlete). Teddy just can't get out of his own way.

Dalton is a better comparison and I just can't see the justification for taking Andy Dalton at 8. I'd rather gamble bigger on an upper half of the NFL QB. That is no slight to Dalton's NFL career, but we are looking for a franchise QB and Dalton really wasn't.

Ironically, the Bengals ended up drafting a guy that is pretty similar to Andy Dalton.

I'm getting less and less upset at the idea of drafting him at 8, but he is still no where near the top of my wishlist for QBs.

He's Eli Manning 2.0. In past times, he'd be rated the #1 or #2 QB. Can he play QB in the NFL now? I think so. Will he be a star? Was Eli? He won 2 SBs with a stout defense.

Dude what the hell are you talking about?  If anything its becoming way more likely we will have a choice of 2 of the top 4 at pick 8 if ATL goes defense instead of qb which I think will happen.  If the Jets stay with Darnold then things get all kinds of interesting.

So stay at 8 and see how the draft goes but there is no way in hell all 4 are going in the first 7 picks.  0% chance.

I want no part of Mac Jones anywhere in the top 20-25 picks or so. He's a late 1st rounder at best IMO. Someone is gonna fall in love with him and convince themselves the physical limitations don't matter and reach, but honestly he probably should be there when we draft in the 2nd if sanity ruled draft rooms.

While I agree he's a late 1st rounded and I would take him easily with our 2nd pick, but he won't be there. But as you've stated him physical limitations is describing Tom Brady and look how he turned out, and that's what some people see (right or wrong). Jones just might have the smarts and pocket awareness and accuracy to succeed in the NFL.

If we can't get Watson or Fields or Wilson. I would take Wilson or Lance but not at 8. I would take LT Slater at 8 and then try to move up with my 2nd round pick if their either are available to around 18 to 20 in the 1st.

We've reached the point of desperation. We see a Watson trade is increasingly unlikely to work out for us. We see there's more and more smoke that all of the "big four" QB prospects may well be gone by #8. So now we're grasping at straws trying to convince ourselves that a Mac Jones or Mitch Trubisky could actually be the answer.

Fug.

I mean, honestly?  If it came down to Trubisky or Jones, I'd rather have Trubisky.  Dude does have an arm at least.  I think Trubisky has the potential to be another Ryan Tannehill.  If you look at their career trajectories, they look pretty similar.  I know not everyone loves Tannehill, but that dude is actually legit.  He's not HoF caliber, but you can will a Super Bowl with him.  Bear in mind, most of Tannehill's career was spent in the same division as the Patriots.

I've seen a lot of folks knock Trubisky around here . . . but there's a guy there who is 25-13 since his rookie season.  Throws twice as many TD's as INT's and completes 64% of his passes.  Stop looking at his train wreck of a team and look at him.  He definitely needs someone to help him smooth out his INT rate.  He's all over the board with it, but there's a player there.

Mac's the pick. I've been saying it for a month or so now. He's going to do very well in the NFL, either for us or against us. If we don't take him at 8, then there's no way he's making it past New England or New Orleans.

He's also the QB our coaching staff has had the most time to be around pre-draft and probably will be. That might speak volumes when it comes time to make the pick.

This is all under the premise that we don't pick up someone by trade or free agency before the draft.

Looking back on the past 5ish super bowls and I know its skewed hard because of brady but it seems like the qbs that play in the game about roughly half are athletic (Jimmy G, Mahoomes, Cam, Wilson) and roughly half are pocket passers (Brady, Ryan, Manning, Foles, Goff).

And with basically all of those teams had good/great olines and defenses.  So maybe we are putting a little too much emphasis on how athletic a qb really needs to be

After Rhule called him an alpha at the Senior Bowl I mentally started the process that Mac very well may be our pick.  Not sure how I am going to feel if that does play out that way.

I just want the pro days and interviews and work outs to start so we can at least begin getting some more info on these guys

This thread reads very similar to the thread we had on here about Justin Herbert last year. So many posters complaining about his arm strength and mobility, yet he comes out and sets all kind of rookie QB records.

Not necessarily comparing Jones and Herbert, it’s just funny seeing the huddle experts having a conniption over the thought process of the panthers drafting a more conventional pocket passer.

A QB as a running threat absolutely stresses defenses more than non-running QBs, but they clearly aren't the only winning QBs in the NFL. I'd rather have the complete package...who wouldn't? But that's not to say that a dynasty can't be built with a less mobile QB. I don't think any team is going to the SB without a pretty damn good OL anyway.

Mind you, I'm not advocating we go with Jones at 8...personally, I'd trade back and pick up more picks and maybe pick him or Lance up later. I could see one or both of them dropping down the board.

Thats why I am still pissed at Hurndog for not taking a LT in last years draft.  I mean damn we had the pick of the litter with 3 incredible prospects and we go DT.  It makes no sense giving what we knew at the time.  Sure brown is good but he isnt going to be more valuable than Wirfs willis or Becton over the course of their career.  Wouldnt it be fuging peaches and cream going into this draft knowing we had both of our tackle spots solidified?
