REPORT: Panthers remain interested in Deshaun Watson trade

With seven lawsuits filed, five more promised, and at least 10 more possibly coming, common sense suggests that it has become difficult if not impossible for the Texans to trade quarterback Deshaun Watson. A Saturday report from Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle suggests otherwise.

Wilson cites unnamed sources to support the claim that multiple teams remain interested in Watson: Eagles, Panthers, Jets, Dolphins, 49ers and Broncos

Sounds like:

-Watson played his last down for Houston

-He will be traded but not for another 6-12 months 

-His trade value took a major hit

Being interested and actually making a trade are two different things. With the current legal cloud(s) over Watson, anyone who trades for him would assume the risk that Watson will be suspended without pay, eventually. The new team also would possibly have to pay Watson, if he’s placed on the Commissioner-Exempt list while the various lawsuits proceed 

For now, it’s hard to imagine anyone trading for Watson. That could change in time. His lawyer, Rusty Hardin, has said that a response to the allegations is coming this week. With so many persons making claims against Watson, it won’t be easy for Hardin to make this all go away.

I for one am okay with a proven young talent at qb having to sit out for a year to let his body heal and recover from football especially if his trade value is going down. All of this is predicated on him being cleared of wrongdoing. I can't pull for someone who's a sexual predator off the field, but I'm perfectly willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until the process plays itself out.

It would actually be really dumb.

Before wasting cap space paying someone through legal proceedings, a team should at least wait and see if the jury deems this as something that goes to criminal charges.

And no, the Panthers don’t have ‘inside info’ on 22 women and a jury that doesn’t exist yet lol.

best case scenario watson is innocent of suspendible offense and we save one of those first rounders or something 

Timing of everything has been just too screwy. Wouldn't surprise me that there isn't much in the way of fire to that smoke. 

I hope there isn't and that we are one of the few that know it and we steal him away for a bargain.

That's what the article basically says, that teams are interested if he's cleared.

John McClain said the same in a newer article. This one's actually a repost of one from Friday that was already discussed here

With all things being equal, none of the teams can blink yet. Until there is clear direction, then no team can surrender whatever position they had prior to the report. If he is cleared of any criminal wrongdoing then which ever team hung in there the longest will come out ahead.

      It's honestly pretty interesting just seeing this pairing play out. Canales’ offenses (Seattle, Tampa) are run-first, under-center, play-action systems built around defined reads and intermediate/deep timing throws. That structure worked when he had QBs like Baker Mayfield or Russell Wilson in a system that created clear launch points and sightlines. His success has always been tied to a credible run game + play-action gravity. You can see that with the Panthers team building philosophy as well. Coker and TMac both are bigger receivers that won't get the best YAC production but thrive as possession receivers in contested scenarios. They're not the best in space and creating additional yardage in such, and would likely fair better systematically with a stronger armed QB who can create better opportunities on those boundary 1v1 matchups with stronger throws. Bryce, on the other hand, is a spread-native QB. His strengths are rhythm, spacing, quick processing, and off-script creation. Asking him to live in condensed formations with long-developing play-action concepts just hasn't been his forte. And well, his boundary throws are limited in velocity which takes a big chunk of the playbook off. And I mean a QB like Bryce can still work, it's just Dave's offensive philosophy and foundation is very much at odds with Young's physical limits and his own experience. So it's certainly still a learning experience for Dave to figure out how he can mesh his offensive philosophy with Young's strengths. He's very inexperienced with maximizing Bryce's strengths with his system. Would love to see us bring in an OC with spread experience and adaptability to implement a cohesive system with Dave to allow Bryce to thrive, as it's obvious we're sticking with him for a bit longer.

      Only thing I really agreed with is questioning why we didn’t take any timeouts on their last drive.  I know hindsight is 20/20, but I think it would’ve saved clock bc they were desperate to score as soon as the opportunity presented itself, but I also think it could’ve helped the defense regroup and maybe give us a better chance to stop them.
