I found this interesting re: first round QBs

I compare Fields and lance to chocolate and raisin cookies. One is gonna be a sweet chocolate one and the others gonna be a nasty raisin one. You have to chose which one is the chocolate and who's the raisin. While Mac jones is the healthy bland tasting salad and Lawrence and Wilson are the expensive desserts you can't afford.

Fields is the anti-Bridgewater?

PFF has Fields as the most accurate passer in the class, best deep ball in the class and uses screens the least of all the top QBs in the class. He had two bad games against the top defenses in the country during weeks his team didn’t really practice and they weren’t sure who was going to be available and who wasn’t. He’s a great kid and a great thrower of the football. If we can get him without giving up a ton we need to go for it.

Just now, Brooklyn 3.0 said:

So the guy with the MOST rpo/screen stuff from that list is considered the next coming of Jesus? Yeah, point not really made there.

I mean it is a huge part of his game. Why can’t he be the second coming of Jesus while also throwing a lot of screens?

The two big concerns I'd have with Lawrence if we were in the game for him are:

a) that offence is gimmicky as poo. So much of it is based off screens, misdirection and RPO with superior athletes.

b) his inconsistent ball placement when throwing downfield.

That stat right there backs up a).

Exactly. The issue comes in when such a QB is also unable to drive the ball down the field. Mahomes (an extreme example chosen to highlight the point) gets a lot of passing yards like this, but there is zero question about if he can also drive it down the field.

    • I don’t remember Mills from the USFL days just when he was in NO.  But when you saw Smitty it screamed oh yeah, this guy has something. Immediately. So, have not seen anything that dramatic with Young. All I know about him says he is solid with his character and smarts and don’t see a lot of that translating into screaming he really has something. I think the people that say he could possibly acceptably run an offense designed around him, with top flight talent in support, are probably about right. But I can’t see any Pro Bowls or lofty accomplishments in my crystal ball.
    • I thought I read they’d still be there but as a backup in case of malfunction.  So it’s not so much a goodbye as it is they’re being sidelined (I’ll see myself out)
    • Their forecheck is relentless because they are so physical and heavy.  It’s just a perfect mashup for how they play. Florida before Paul Marice played just like us. Speed but with finesse.  Paul made them but into playing heavy. They went and got players that added to that style he wants and it works.  Plus they have the best goalie in the league.  That helps more than anything. The canes have got let Koochie be their guy he will never become the star that most think he will if rod keeps sticking with vets that flame out.    1. Koochie or a Soros type player  2. Switch to zone defense  3. Get heavier.    like I said, I love Rod. Best pro coach ever in the Carolinas sports buy he is holding us back with his philosophy and style.  He is the reason.  He can change all of that with decisions.
