Jaycee Horn has settled on his jersey number with the Carolina Panthers.

Horn announced on social media Saturday night that he will be wearing No. 8 for the Panthers. As part of a new league rule that allows for wider jersey number flexibility, cornerbacks are now able to wear single-digit jerseys.

He is wearing the number to honor Kobe Bryant, who wore both 8 and 24 with the Los Angeles Lakers.

When asked about No. 24 specifically he said, “It is a great number. It’s definitely in mind. I’m going to look at some of those single digits too though, see how those work out. My brother was talking to me about it on the way over here and changed my mind a little bit so we’ll see how it shakes out.”

Horn wore No. 1 and 7 during his time at South Carolina.

Other rookies have announced their new numbers with the Panthers.

Tight end Tommy Tremble shared he will be wearing No. 82 and fourth-round pick running back Chuba Hubbard will be wearing No. 30, the same as his number at Oklahoma State.

The single-digit selection of No. 8, the number Bryant wore in the first half of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers from 1997 to 2006, will certainly be quite a different look in the secondary come game day.

Horn also appeared to have considered No. 21 and No. 24, Bryant’s second number he donned from 2007 to 2016, in the process. In the end, we can say he certainly nailed it. His No. 8 may not only signify his exact draft position, but also a true fandom to one of the most influential and impactful athletes in history.

I hope he does the number proud.  It's been a few years since we had a CB that played like a mad dog.

I want some rough tumbling thistlefoots in the footrums of tomfoolery.  Felderweels be felterswelled in the pits of Fashoriumdalum.

    • I think the ‘issue’ here is that we had two guys that clashed for several reasons. In some ways they were different, but in other ways they had a lot in common, and sadly they couldn’t see the forest for the trees. Sometimes when you have two people like that together they are either going to love or hate each other, and if it’s the latter, you need someone to mediate and hope the two individuals are capable of putting their differences aside for the common good. In this instance, they couldn’t find a way to move forwards together because I don’t think either guy wanted to play second fiddle to the other. This video basically said neither guy had the tools to bridge that gap and mend that fence, and perhaps also were unwilling to give an inch at that stage in their lives and careers. So a divorce, while unfortunate, was always likely. Do we win the Super Bowl with Smitty and Cam? Well, it’s one of life’s big what ifs for us Panthers fans.
    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
