King talks Luke's HOF chances

Being good enough to return for 14 years says a lot, and he still had a role on his team's offenses during all that time as well.

No question about a guy like Luke who competed, even setting the performance bar, at a key defensive position. I'm just pointing out that Sproles had a very good career in his own right and accomplished quite a bit, putting him IMO rightfully in the conversation even if he's always an also-ran.

I think Sproles fits in the Hall of Very Good.  The fact that he was so good for so long despite his small stature is really impressive.  Great player, but not HoF.

Luke was one of the only other Panthers players other than Cam that the overall NFL fanbase knew (and almost certainly respected more). He will get in one day.

Regarding Sproles, not diminishing his accomplishments because he proved that even smaller players can contribute to a team. The issue he'll have is that he was more often a compliment to the offense rather than a feature. He had flashes of greatness but not enough to stick in people's memories. I suppose a litmus test will be Devin Hester because if he can't get in, then Sproles won't have a chance.

I don't think it was not calm or a Karen post, but you are advocating for guys like Sproles and Mitchell?

This is not the NBA HoF where every decent player gets in. Those guys were basically return men who only got to see the field when the #1 RB got tired.  They have very low TD numbers and only have yards from returning kicks for an absurd number of seasons.

They did not have enough impact on the overall game to warrant a HoF nod. Nobody cares what size Sprolles was. If they are taking size into consideration Steve Smith is a first ballot guy, but they dont care what size a guy was. They care about the overall impact a player had on the game.

Nah, I'm not saying at all that Sproles or Mitchell (or Hester for the matter) should definitely make it in. I'm just saying that I agree with an actual HoF voter, King in this case, that it's reasonable for guys like that to be in the conversation even if just by brief mention. If they happen to make it in then good for them. In all likelihood they won't, and they shouldn't over guys like Luke, Smitty, etc.

With respect to the NBA I was very surprised to learn just a couple of weeks ago that Arvydas Sabonis was in. Maybe I just don't follow basketball closely enough but dude played like 6 years in the NBA... that blew my mind.

I guess if we are letting everyone in Vinny Testaverde and Ricky Proehl should go in too. Probably should add Gary Anderson as well because man they racked up some numbers and played a long time.

NBA isn't the NBA Hall of Fame, but the Basketball Hall of Fame.  They consider everything you have accomplished outside of the NBA too.  Sabonis has a long, long list of accomplishments.

Ah, that makes sense with respect to him. I know he was a great international player as well but didn't spend a lot of years in the NBA.

The basketball hall of fame is a joke. If you can play in the nba for 10 seasons and average about 15 ppg, 4 apg, 4 rpg, and have name recognition, you can be a hall of famer.

Vlade Divac is a hall of famer.

Yep, it's why IMO we have four guys who are deserving of the HOF.

Peppers is the shoe in. He's in. 1st ballot. Cam should be in. His rushing TD numbers for a QB will probably never be touched. Luke should be in. He was the best defensive player in the league for most of his career. Smitty should be in. He put up HOF numbers in a three yards and a cloud of dust offense.

Gross is the best OT we ever had but he's one of those "Hall of Very Good" players. He's only remembered so fondly by us because of all the straight trash we've trotted out at OT. Olsen was great. I just don't think he put up the TD numbers he needed to in order to get a bust. TD, Morgan, and Beason all had HOF talent and ability, the injury roulette wheel just didn't spin the right way for them.
