I hate it for the kid, I'm not an NFL scout but I never saw anything from him to make me believe he was going to be a great NFL QB and his environment isn't helping him with the Jets.  I'm just glad he didn't make it to us but I wish him the best, hate to see young people thrown to the wolfs like he is going to be with the NY media

He can throw an absolute bomb sometimes, but this very well may be a Johnny Manziel situation where the QB gets too much credit because the WR was amazing.

I still wanna know if Manziel would've translated if he wasn't such an idiot. He never gave himself a shot. You can be a wild child getting by on sheer talent in college but no one is good enough to pull that off in the NFL at QB.

Zach Wilson is and always was a nonstarter for me. The flavor of the month! I always thought Trey Lance was the better option, and I'm sticking to it.

The more interesting question is whether we passed up on a potential franchise QB in Fields. By most accounts, he's looked pretty good so far. Darnold has as well. As long as they're on similar trajectories, we're good. As long as Horn balls out, we're good.

The consensus assessments of prospects such as Justin Fields and Trey Lance vs Zach Wilson is the same old tired story that has been going on for years. Two of the three are one read flukes who just aren't "cerebral" enough for the position while Wilson is the next flavor of the month. Seen the same thing so many times over the years. Blaine Gabbert and Jake Locker were supposed to be good too. Same thing with our own starter vs Josh Allen. If you fit the profile and fit into the box of biases and preconceived notions for some folks that's enough. And some fans and analysts will never give mobile quarterbacks their due because that's not how their daddy did it back in the day.

Theres a lot of score predictions for the jets game.

I want us to annihilate the jets.  I want Sam to light them up for 300 yards and Robbie to catch multiple TD bombs.

That said....

Any given Sunday.  The 2020 jets do not exist anymore.  We will be playing the 2021 jets and they will be much better.

They have new coaches, a new first round guard in Vera-Tucker, RT Morgan Moses (79.9 pff), WR Corey Davis(85.3), 2nd rounder WR Elijah Moore, Edge Carl Lawson (76.3), and DT Rankins from the Saints.  They already had Marcus Maye(82.9) and DL Quinnen Williams (81.4) .

On paper, their oline now looks better than ours.

They were top 10 against the run last year and we don't play well without our run game.

They had a harder schedule than us last year.

They beat 2 teams with winning records and the Rams were pissed because they wanted to lock up the #1 seed.

We did not beat a single team with a winning record last year.  If we had their schedule, we might have had the same record.

They are coming here with something to prove.

Do not sleep on the jets.

A whole lot of it depends on which team takes a guy. Pat Mahomes is amazing but do you really think he'd turn into what he is now if he ended up on the Jets? When you draft a guy you have to build around them and cater your system to them, just throwing them to the wolves and hoping for the best almost never works. We were very lucky we had Chud the first few years of Cam's career.

This so much.

Manziel didn't translate to the NFL because he went to the league and daddy couldn't keep his diaper changed any longer.

The Jets are going to be bad, but I don't know that they'll be a laughing stock under Saleh in his first year. I think he was a good hire, and will at least get guys in the right spots and playing proper football, even if those players aren't NFL starting caliber guys in the end.

We shouldn't under-estimate them week 1.

Hearing all the positivity about Fields and Trey Lance is beginning to make me wonder about Rhule's, Brady's and Fit's QB scouting abilities (not to mention that they were reportedly high on Wilson). The only thing that is keeping my mouth shut is the good things that I'm hearing about Darnold. That, and the fact that live bullets haven't started flying yet.

It's still early, but damn.

Exactly, it's practice.

People complaining about the lack of TC coverage too - I've no problem with Rhule running a closed shop. They can't hide on Sundays - that's when it really matters.

I'm right there with you.

Herbert, Fields, Lance

Bridgewater 🥺

We have Darnold under the guise of "it wasn't him it was his situation".  I understand this but what if he is what his numbers suggest regardless of his situation. Because this scenario is a definite possibility.  By the way, I want him to propel this organization to consistent contenders.  I just have my concerns about how long can we make the excuse of it's not him....we have to find him the right weapons, the right offensive line, the right offensive scheme... the right furniture.  So on and so forth.
