Question...what if P.J is better then S D?

I want Darnold in the whole time. We know what PJ is (below average backup who can make plays with his legs, but isn’t super accurate). If Darnold sucks, roll with it to a high draft pick and take your next QB. If he looks better and better as the season goes then we can do some evaluations.

What if people were smart enough to know not to overreact to preseason games? 🤔

Yeah. This. I just finished praising PJ in another thread but it was to point out he seems to be growing and could become a viable backup. Not gonna jump the shark and say he is a starting caliber player.  I don’t know whether Darnold is the answer or not but I think jumping to conclusions based on 30 minutes of scrimmage against backups and fringe roster players is a bit dramatic.

It amazes me that people come into a clearly titled thread to complain about the topic instead of simply not clicking. Actually, it doesn't amaze me. It's par for the course. I just don't understand what drives people to do it.

That's kind of the point of a forum isn't it?   Especially if the topic is titled as a question.   It seems fairly natural that there would be comments for each side of the fence.

No. Complaining about someone having a different point of view or asking a question you don't think is worthy consideration isn't the point of a forum. Address the point with a counterpoint if you'd like or simply don't click if you don't think it's a worthwhile topic. It should be pretty simple. We're just seeing way too many threads derailed by people complaining about people voicing an opinion different from their own right now.

Comments from the other side of the fence are expected and should be welcomed. Comments complaining that there is another side of the fence are the problem.

There isn’t many “good backup QBs” in the NFL @BurnNChinn in all honesty PJ won his first and only NFL start… not much more you can ask from the kid. There are very few teams in the NFL that can survive if their QB goes down.

Not knocking you but you are a bit too aggressive on PJ given that he plays a role in the NFL that are very few good and far between.

I think as long as he's healthy then Sam Darnold is the qb all season.  If hes not the answer then I'm fairly sure they dont think the answer is on the roster.  So far our approach at qb feels a lot like Tepper and his making his fortune on hedge funds.   Their method to find a qb so far seems to take flyers on low risk potentially high reward shots.  If they dont pan out in their first season then they didnt give up that much and arent especially tied to them for more than a year or two and if they hit on one then they didnt give up much and have a good young qb.  The downfall being it can potentially basically mean they are almost throwing away seasons on an individual basis but they are also adding more and more pieces to surround the eventual qb of the future.  Hopefully its Darnold.

I think this has been the plan all along.  Build the team, throw darts at QB.  If we don't have the QB position figured out by time we're ready, then go all in on the right guy.  I think that happens next year or the year after if Darnold is not the answer.

Personally, I wish they took Fields.  I don't see a problem with throwing more darts every year instead of 1 at at time.

This. I just don't think PJ has the talent to be the answer, so why bother unless it's due to injury? Darnold does have the talent to be the answer. Give him the full season or as many games as his health allows to prove what he can do.

Fascination and entertainment value.

I’m don’t like our whole qb situation honestly. I don’t care what anyone says but we should have been giving Darnold reps he shouldn’t be considered a vet. Idc if he was going against their damn second string. I’m sorry but we don’t know what we have in Darnold and if anyone thinks we have backups well I don’t know what else to tell ya. Nothing against you just my opinion.

I didnt see posts like that.   I saw a couple mentioning he wasnt a good backup and one mentioning an overreaction to 1 preseason game but those are both responses to the post.  I didnt really notice any saying the post shouldnt have been made.
