Hereā€™s the full quote. Not nearly as bad as the out of context clickbait the reporter is trying to sell.

ā€œHeā€™s got to learn, this is the NFL, youā€™ve got to get the ball out.Ā You canā€™t hold on to it and try to make a play and throw it deep downfield. And we gotta protect him better. It starts with us up front.ā€

Not totally under the bus like the snippet would indicate. Ā Ā ProbablyĀ something they have discussed as a team after watching film. Ā Nothing to see here IMO

I am not saying he's wrong, but seriously, at least in the Jets / Panthers game our pressure got there so fast I'm not sure Peyton Manning or Tom Brady could get the ball out fast enough.Ā

I'm afraid of what that quote says about their culture more than anything.Ā  Reeks of "It's not my fault" way too much.Ā  Especially when it's an experienced vet saying that about a rookie.

Not a good look at all.

    • DJ for Chark instantly makes it better. Mingo in year 2 should be better than rookie Mingo, XL adds some physical explosiveness that was missing. Also the improved OGs should help them have a little more time to get to their spots. On paper it looks better but we will have to wait and see on the field.Ā
    • Pac 12 isnā€™t the SECā€¦ Leggette is a vertical threat he averaged 17.7 yards per reception, you arenā€™t throwing this guy ā€œbubble screensā€ all game. Youā€™re using him downfield and winning vertically, that is why the panthers drafted him. We were never looking at short and intermediate weapons, itā€™s why Ladd wasnā€™t our pick.Ā Ā
    • I am not trashing Mingo I think this newĀ guy can run away from more people. You get a versatile RB, and put WRs out there that the defense has to account for every one of them, we might find some more slack to attack. I havenā€™t really bitched about the WRs we have but they didnā€™t scare anyone. Not a single one that we have.Ā  I donā€™t how it will work out but I see this dud 10-15 yards downfield winning jump balls and breaking a tackle or two on some of them. I just think he can be physically stronger than these cornerbacks, and he has the jets too. And good hands.Ā  I donā€™tĀ know how smart he is, or needs to be for that matter but I think his challenges will comeĀ more on the mental side.Ā
