Who would you rank as the Panthers BEST Offensive Coordinator in Team History....

gotta agree with those saying Henning. if Chudzinski had stayed around longer then he might take it. the success he had in his seasons here had as much to do with the weapons at his disposal as anything else. it's a shame the team never really achieved that potent two tight end look again. not to mention still having Deangelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Steve Smith, Mike Tolbert, and a veteran offensive line. I always appreciated his feel for incorporating gadget and trick plays, though.

but Henning did more with less, and his offense was one of the few offenses in Panthers history that carried the team at times. you always felt like the team had a chance, even when it came to erasing deficits. and having the ability to build a viable running game no matter who was toting the rock was something I think I took for granted at the time.

Brady just isn't in their class at this point. whatever advantage he might have in play design (dubious IMO, especially compared to Chudzinski who basically wrote the playbook that Shula used in 2015) is offset by the lack of feel he has shown for getting weapons involved. he could grow into the best OC the Panthers have had, but reading the tea leaves, he might be gone before that gets a chance to happen.

Shula was infinitely worse than Davidson. Even Davidson wouldn’t have wasted the best player we’ve ever had so badly. With Davidson I’d be willing to bet we win the Super Bowl in 2015

I think the Panthers have the best win% and most playoffs appearances under Shula than any other OC.   I hate that brand of football but at some point the team success IMO has to factor.

not saying his the best or was good....but Shula can't rank at the bottom in Carolina.

We have an offensive line that is horrific in pass pro and a QB that has long been plagued with ball security issues....

you really want Brady to be pushing a bunch of deep pass plays and double moves?  That sounds like the perfect recipe for the O to just turn it over and prevent us from having a shot.

Which would be different from Sunday, how?

Chud is so overrated here. Teams were stacking the box and daring Cam to throw. Cam's long ball was great and he had a prime Smitty catching them...and a really decent Oline. 6-10, 7-9.

Year 2 teams were teeing off on constant zone reads and the narrative was "Chud's trying to showcase his genius to get a HC job." I never understood this take as I don't see how sucking leverages oneself. It worked on getting him that HC gig, so what do I know. However, his results elsewhere suggest I might have been right.

Henning. 03 season we had a very underrated offense. All those “cardiac cats” drives at the end someone had to call the plays to keep the defense off balance.  In 2004 when smith went down he revamped the offense and Muhammad had an insane year. In 05 we probably would have been back in the super bowl if all our running backs didn’t get hurt.

    • I mean, he's a professional athlete.  What you think as a fan vs what he should think as a player are completely different.  Being bad doesn't mean you should lack confidence in yourself, and really that is true in all forms of life.  Do everything you want to do with confidence. Justin Fields sucks, but does he ever play like someone who doesn't believe in his own abilities?   Obviously you need more than confidence to be a high-level NFL player, and Bryce will never be that.  But he could still create 2-3 extra plays a game if he allowed himself to play more "free" like he did in the second half of last season.  The fact he refuses to use his legs to pick up yards nowadays hurts this team.  Simple things like that would go a long way for us, even if not for him.
    • I've always thought it odd that the QB is the only guy in the roster who carries a record. If a RB puts up 1200 yards but the team sucks then everyone still says the RB had a good year. If a QB puts up good numbers put the D is atrocious and the win loss record isn't great due to that then the narrative is that the QB can't win. Now that we're finding a way to win with suddenly dominant D and dominate running game people are trying to shift to this "Bryce is just a winner" narrative while he puts up bottom of the league numbers while near the top of the league in turnovers. It's just funny to watch.
