The Panthers….. not an attractive destination for top shelf talent?

Other than the obvious small market team factors, the fact that have been a bad franchise is an obvious one(no winning seasons since 2017). We also have an EXTREMELY inexperienced and possibly ill-suited coaching staff. That is not going to get win-focused veterans on board, most likely. We also don't have a lot of elite talent here(mostly young talent). Great players want to be surrounded by other great players, because it helps them win more easily.

Right now, we are probably most likely a team that is looking at being a destination for big name/elite free agents looking for a paycheck. That's not the place you want to be.

But, winning will cure all that. If we build a winning team, better players will want to come here.

The Panthers are a mediocre small market team and has always been so. Previous management regimes didn't seem to like going after the expensive big names either. Negative player treatment and experiences, Gano, Newton, Bridgewater, etc, are another issue. Negative experiences always get talked about more than positive ones.

Overthinking this.

We are a smaller market and still building so the “vets” are always gonna chase a ring or payday (with payday winning 9 out of 10 time.

Oooooo Kelly Stafford wanted to live in LA over Charlotte big whoop.

Gano’s main gripe isn’t even here anymore.

Whitworth thing is hindsight because everyone thought the dude had like 2 years left.

The further in the rearview the Whitworth thing is, the larger it is. We'll never know if we were ever an option or if we ever contacted him, but the Whitworth vs. Kalil comparison is one for the ages. A HOF caliber player vs. one of the biggest busts in franchise history.

I dont wanna trade for big name people.  I want to draft them and not fug it up.

This is the answer….also, the poor player has no choice but to play out his contract, or get dumped/traded by the franchise that drafted them.  Very few players end their careers with the franchise that drafted them.

It is what it is.

Smart move from Stafford. I thought he was washed up but he is gonna get some MVP votes this year and the Rams are a legit SB contender.

Yes they gave up a ton of draft capital but amazing how they turned that team from Goff/TGIII to Stafford/Kupp/Henderson

How do y'all think that Miami isn't as much of a cluster as we are?  Could be that Watson would rather have the larger city to disappear in with a much more "exciting" nightlife.  He could also be looking at the tax situation and thinking that Miami is a better because he keeps more of his cash.  He could just love the beach, and Miami is closer to that than Charlotte is.

Sure, the complaints about the Panthers are all very valid, but let's also not forget about the non-football aspects of the various locations.

    • Ultimately it's up to the other safety prospects to clearly outplay Scott. I think when that happens on tape against other teams it'll be addressed. I think none of them have done that definitively and consistently yet.
    • Night and day difference in the front office investements.  Since Morgan has been in the FO (5 years)....4 out of 5 first round picks have been offensive players.  The one defensive pick was a corner. Expand it out to the first 2 rounds? 7 out of the 9 picks have been offensive.  That IMO is why our D sucks so bad.   You build defenses up front.   Carolina hasn't been investing there.  Ron's first 5 years? 3 of the 5 first round picks were defensive players.  Expand it all to include second rounders  7 of the 10 picks were defensive.  All front 7 players.
    • I think he gets this year to show what he can do.  Last year, we had a lot of injuries. This year, we should have some players, even if we lose one or two.  It's the first preseason game.  Some of the starters weren't even in it.  There is no scheming or game planning.  Let's see how guys do when it counts. I think we have a GM that knows a thing or two about defense.  Let it play out.
