Opinions: need beef on the Dline

Along with needing an Oline, looks like they need bulk on the Dline also. They seem to get bulldozed up the middle by the run game time and time again.

Speed is great, but without some bulk up the middle it's a problem. Teams with big Olines seem to cause havoc and just push them around.

They need big bodies to stop the run on any consistent basis.

That's approaching 30% of the time though. Even if you win your division you're going to have to win three games against playoff caliber teams. Odds are pretty decent one of those teams is going to curb stomp you in the trenches. It needs to get addressed in the off-season.

He keeps saying that but whats so funny is it isn't even saying what he thinks its saying for more than one reason. You listed the most obvious and probably funniest one though that 30% of the time isn't good lol.

Exactly and both Brown and Jones are 320. The problem is that we always rush 3 or 4 and our ends are light if we use Reddick and Burns.  We also try so hard to jump the gaps to rush the passer it is easy for teams to let defenders go upfield and take themselves out of the play.

Dallas used to combat our rushing game by using 3 interior linemen and 2 ends so the offense couldn't double any one defender with another O linemen and they played two technique on obvious rushing situations.  With 5 on 5 it is a lot easier to fill gaps and not get blown off the ball. You can still substitute other guys on passing downs but it really closes down the run lanes. And if I can figure it out a guy like Snow with all his experience should surely be able to do the same.

I thought Daquan Jones would be better than just serviceable/meh.  He's really middle of the road, and with that, we're not getting Derrick Brown to step up.  And then with Fox/Burns/Reddick flying around, we just don't have the big bodies to help clog the middle against the top lines.  YGM may actually be our better run defender out of the DEs but he's been on and off the field this season.

Games are won and lost in the trenches.  Both sides.  A real scrappy 3-5 tech is needed.

My needs:

1. Better coaching

2. OL

*3. QB (Too early to tell w/Cam's return)

4. DT

5. LB

6. S

    • Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful NFL starter too. Just because the experts make a claim doesnt mean it's true either.  Bryce may be a serviceable QB for someone. Serviceable QBs don't bring you a perennial winner or lead you to the playoffs over and over. Serviceable QBs also dont get 50m plus per year deals which is what a Bryce extension would look like.  The stats show he hasn't been even a serviceable QB in the 3 years he's been here. The eye test shows he hasn't put together 2 franchise QB salary games back to back in 3 years.  Complain all you want about people being negative, but people pointing out that Bryce is held to a different standard than anyone else on the team isn't complaining. It's stating the obvious.
    • We have big bodied WRs and 3 TEs who all have potential and each bring something different to the table. I never saw the need to go out there and try and find a new starting TE.  While it's nice to have a guy like McBride, Bowers, etc, I think a team's better use of the cap is by having TEs on rookie contracts or cheap vets, not having to pay elite TE money.
    • He had the award until like the last 8 games. He sucked ass and flagg had 3 40 point games
