This is how I figured it would play out. I can't imagine Tepper being desperate enough for a mid season firing until it hits the fan next year, but you never know with an impatient billionaire.

These type college program jobs might not be available next year is the only thing making me think he could possibly leave, but I doubt it. I’m not even completely out on Rhule, but he needs to change his OC pretty quickly…

And Venables is?

Name a clear cut better coordinator in college football?   Clemson has more CFP appearances than anyone.  2 nattys.  And Clemson has been a top 25 scoring D his entire career.   And everyone in Clemson knows Venables and the QBs is what it has been about.

and before Clemson got him....OU already saw first hand the Venables magic.

So yeah, Venables excites the OU alumni and fanbase much more so than a busting NFL coach that didn't do diddly in college.

Which is why the famous OU alumni have been the ones driving the bring Venables back bandwagon.  Rhule is a just randoms on twitter.  Venables actually has people openly lobbying for him.

Does Venables even want to be a HC? I think he's the highest paid assistant coach in college football. He makes more than most head coaches.

He does.  He has spoken on it.

His stock his been hot for a long time.  He has spoken about why he has stayed at Clemson.  One key reason was he didn't want to be a hypocrite to his kids.  He sold them on Clemson and that experience and wasn't going to then bail for a paycheck/job after they bought in.

One finishes his career at Clemson this season and isn't using his COVID year.   The other is halfway through.  So I don't think he is in the same corner he was a couple years ago.

Honestly I think OU fans want Venables to be a head coach more than Venables himself but yeah why stress when you make lots of money with a less stressful position.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
