The problem with firing Matt Rhule: Who would want to coach this team?

Agreed. And that right there is the point of my thread. What coach worth a damn would genuinely want to coach this team? One who is qualified, but doesn’t need a ridiculous contract to be convinced to do it? That is going to be a challenge.

Aside from Jacksonville, the Raiders are also in the head coach market. They are another attractive destination. There might be a few more  teams with a job opening like Minnesota and Chicago which are both more desirable than coaching the Panthers.

I would argue the Panthers would be the worst situation of all teams potentially looking for a head coach this off-season. 

Good, young defense, personable GM, owner willing to spend, new state of the art facilities coming, money to spend this off-season coupled with a top 10 draft pick…. It’s not a terrible situation.

I disagree, if you're a coordinator looking for his first gig, then you're inheriting a team with a great defense, best RB in the league,and a top 5 WR in Moore. You have to fix the LB, OL and QB positions, but good drafting and coaching can alleviate that.

Be honest, would you rather coach the Raiders who have been in constant dysfunction, the jaguars who have a QB who has failed to live up to expectations and nothing else, or the Panthers who have what I listed above?

If the Browns can hire a coach worth a damn after all their BS, so can we.

I mean you are really looking at this team with true rose colored glasses. Take them off.

The defense is FAR from great. The stats are greatly misleading. They lack talent at LB, the edge rushers are undersized and get dominated in the run game (as evidenced by several teams rushing for over 200 yards this season). There’s some talented pieces, but calling a defense on a 5-9 team “great” is laughable. 

The “best RB in football” barely sees the field.

The only stat DJ Moore is top 5 in is targets and maybe in the hearts of naive Panthers bros.

And the Browns have been a rotating carousel of coaches for the last 20 years….maybe the Panthers were overdue for another bad head coaching hire.

I think this team is in a lot better shape than most give credit for. In comparison to someone like Jacksonville, is in lot worse of shape than we are. 

Defensively, we have good players, we just need more experience at the coaching position.

Offensively is where it may give the new coach some troubles BUT if John Fox can inherit a 1-15 team and Ron Rivera can take over a 2-14 team, surely a new coach can take over this team.

There will be tons of candidates that will want this job because we have an owner with deep pockets who will be open to different approaches. Does everyone forget that our last owner only wanted defensive head coaches that wanted to run the ball for 3 yards and a cloud of dust?
 

And if someone that we offer an interview turns us down who cares? Josh McDaniels turned down the Colts but they arguably got a much better coach in Frank Reich. No coach that’s worth a poo is going to think oh man I can’t coach there because their owner fired Matt Rhule too soon 😂

But if you’re an offensive head coach like Doug Pederson, why would you pick a team like the Panthers when a team like Jacksonville has a franchise QB in place.

Why do people keep saying Trevor Lawrence is a franchise quarterback?  He MIGHT be one eventually, but he certainly hasn't proven it yet.

      First of all the out was not caught because XL slipped and was the only person who could have caught that ball.  I'm not sure where you get that it was almost intercepted but go ahead and believe your story. The kick was in the direction we wanted the ball from the opening kickoff.  Do you think Fitzpatrick didn't try several kicks in that direction before the game and after half?  Do you think we just winged it.  Come on, OK so he missed one earlier.  Kickers can't adjust.  You make it sound like it was a wing and a pray. I saw the game.  Yes and we still got 21 yard from the running game.  We also got two first downs via that pass.  So it isn't like it was 100% we were going to run.   You have your blinders on and hate BY so much that you can't give him any credit because it defeats your narrative that he completely sucks.   What I have yet to here is you 100% for sure solution.  Which QB are you going to bring in that GUARANTEES that he'll be better than BY.  See the difference between you and me is I understand that he isn't the greatest QB to play the game.   But he has strengths and he continues to win whether you like it or not.  You and I have been on this forum for many years and agreed and disagreed on many topics.  I don't think I have ever seen you so filled with so much hatred for a player than BY.   I'm just going to leave it here to agree to disagree because you aren't going to change my outlook and I definitely am not going to change yours.  I do appreciate no personal attacks.  Someone said it earlier.  Ride with our game manager until a Mahomes falls into our laps.

      The key difference being expectation. Jake was basically an afterthought of a free agent signing. Bryce is a guy we mortgaged the franchise on to be THE GUY. Not to mention a different era of football before all the rule changes to benefit the passing game. I don't care how we win either. I just realize that the odds of continuing to win in today's NFL with this level of QB play are very low. If I knew for sure that the Panthers had already decided to pursue other options at QB this off-season I could breathe a sigh of relief but of course they're not going to say that publicly.
