Panthers fire Blackburn, Okam, and Meyer

Even though we had the 2nd ranked defense somehow I think our defensive line sucked. Look at former 1st round pick Derrick Brown, he’s sucked, I could be wrong but I think he’s regressed. The other young defensive linemen haven’t done much better. Brown and Reddick may get sacks but their overall PFF grade sucks. We have had plenty of games where we haven’t got after the QB or let them run down our throats. I think the whole 2nd ranked defense is misleading anyhow. Our offensive line sucked and honestly I don’t see any improvements from our OL. It took all season just to see the two rookies get some playing time. We need coaches who have NFL experience and can help develop young talent. I don’t think college coaches are going to get the job done.

Man, about the only "panther" thing I had to look forward to was Matt Rhule getting fired. bummer...

I wish there was a fast forward button up in this bitch so I could just fast forward to next year this time.

It's the silver lining to each year going by faster as you get older.  It feels like its Christmas every 90 days or whatever.  What's another year at this point?  I'm just hoping we don't have to wait decades.

about Okam---while we had the #2 rated defense, we also were #20 vs. the run.  Not sure that Nixon or Haskins developed like they hoped.  We were playing Fox and YGM inside a lot---I dunno--a scapegoat?  Maybe.

Haskins was a 7th round pick and Nixon was on IR for a good portion of the season - when he played he looked good.

Did anyone at any point last season think “hm yes if only our special teams play was improved”

if anything this team has had a really good run of specialists with Blackburn here

he was fired because he was a holdover from the previous regime and probably still says “keep pounding” in hushed tones when rhule isn’t around

#culturechange

I mean, Rhule is responsible for it as well but we are talking about the same Special Teams coach that didn't have any form of backup plan in case the kicker got hurt. Even worse, it was revealed that our Punter literally had no experience placekicking which means unlike many other teams they didn't even take a tiny bit of time to practice just in case poo happened. I can see the firing for sure.

Rhule often said he wasn't happy with the DL. He would say it everytime someone mentioned how poor the OL was. Okam is the only one of the three coaches fired today that came with Rhule from Baylor. I wonder if they have asked Satterfield come up from South Carolina to be OL Coach (wasn't he the assistant OL Coach here in 2020)?

    • Especially with no other major sports in the area other than UNCW basketball and soccer. It's a good 2 1/2 hour drive just to catch a collegiate football game. If this new arena were built I would hope it also includes an Adult League - I would join up and time allowing would be more than happy to help coach some youth teams. 😄
    • That was real fear in his eyes when the rope was being taken. My younger days, I had my best friend that happened to be black come over all the time. I had the nicest bulldog on the planet, my friend Damon was scared to death of him. His grandmother and daddy taught him to fear all dawgs and seen the same fear in his face and voice.    I think alllll young kids should take swimming lessons and not fear the water. Very thankful my parents did this, I no longer get in the ocean since its 50% sewage. But I enjoyed all the lakes, pools, and oceans I swam in.
    • My personal opinion is the non-guaranteed contract is the main reason for NFL success. MLB and NBA players are on cruise control after their big contracts and it shows in the product.  NFL is each year you are fighting for your job. Same for the majority of the public.... You get lazy or try to coast after the 100+ million contract, your ass will be cut within 1-2 years. Then the next one will not even touch 100 million+. Besides a few NBA players like Kobe was coming for blood with a 300 million contract or 1 doll hair deal. Brandy Beal just reached a buyout where he was getting 110 million, many other cases..... I dare say his name for the hornets guy..... MLB sooo many times as well.    If the NFL starts fully guaranteeing all contracts, Id have a new hobby to fill the hours of entertainment NFL gave me.
