What would y'all think of hiring Ken Dorsey as HC next year?

First, as an organization and a fanbase, we have to quit chasing the next Cam Newton. Really. He was the unicorn and he was lightning in a bottle. I love Cam, but we put so much energy into developing him, exalting him and turning him into our entire game plan that we really killed the team over the long haul.

And yes, 2015 was magical and it came to a tragic end with Superman broken to the point where he'd never be the same again.

Hiring a coach purely to recapture that magic, or worse, to manufacture that magic isn't going to work. We need to hire a coach based on his ability to build a professional football team, a whole team. One who understands that the QB may well be the last piece of the puzzle placed on the table. And that piece has to not just fit but also tie together/strengthen the whole thing.

KC was already a solid team when they drafted Mahomes. Seattle had laid the groundwork before they took a mid-rounds flier on Wilson. Buffalo was tough and gritty before Allen. Heck, you can even say the Patriot way and mindset was already in place before Brady emerged out of nowhere.

Good coaches do that, and all of those teams have excellent coaches and the staff to build and maintain foundations. Can Dorsey do it? I don't know, he's just getting his first shots at the coordinator level. While that's a much better resume than our current doofus, it's still not a proven track record either.

Maybe he's the guy, maybe he's not. But we get some time to see what he can do based on Tepper's lack of guts. If the guys around Allen keep playing like they have been, then maybe Dorsey does have the chops. We'll certainly be able to take a peek behind the scenes due to our Buffalo connections.

NOW we see why JR never hired a college coach.

Richardson did interview Steve Spurrier before hiring John Fox.

Word was that the interview went hysterically bad, but Spurrier sucked in the NFL so it turned out okay.

Tepper probably would have given him a record breaking contract.

That would have made more sense that giving Rhule what he did. At least Spurrier had won something.

They wouldn't have any extra picks in 2023; the firsts would have been for 2024 and 2025. With very few exceptions, NFL GMs don't value picks that far away. You have to have a lot of job security to pull that off. Like Chiefs, Eagles, Rams kinda stability. That's obviously not the case with David Tepper, especially since he'd just fired his head coach. No GM except for like Howie Roseman is going to trade an asset you have now for a future asset you probably get to use.  Second, at the time you'd have to assume these are first rounders late in the first round. Obviously currency is currency and the panthers need young players, but these weren't slam dunk top ten picks. At the end of the day there's one pick that separates a first and second round pick.  Lastly, the only place that ever reported this trade was the Rams. All the reporters just repeated what McVay said and it became gospel. We have no idea how serious the negotiations were, if they ever really happened, if the offer was real, etc. And I personally believe McVay and Sneed are the kind of guys who would make up rumors like that to fug up other teams, mostly because I assume if I've thought of it someone smarter than me has.  I don't know how you'd call it the greatest draft haul of all time. Firsts quickly lose their value the farther out they are and Burns had 16.5 sacks last season. And anyway those picks would probably just been tossed into the burning inferno of the Bryce trade up so it's a moot point anyway.
