It doesn't matter, once he's inked the Saints can do contract gymnastics to get under the cap.  They always do.  Watson could care less about their cap situation as long as their core players stays intact for the time being.

Core players?? Huh

Rb facing charges and 1 WR coming back after sitting for the year..

The Oline is losing Atleast 2 major parts..

And without draft picks and Money how do they add talent.. They are already going to have to move heaven and earth to make this happen..

It was posted on twitter that if Darnold is in the trade, we can end up with 40m in cap space with restructuring for free agency this year

And if Darnold isn't in the trade?  The Texans aren't obligated to him.

Why the f*ck would ANYONE, EVER, take Silver Platter Sam in a trade?!? 🤦‍♂️

The 1st Hurdle is getting Watson okay anyway.. So letting him meet and then hashing out the deal is the way to go... There deal might be the 2nd best they can get but keeping the ruse of a 2 or 3 team race is still beneficial no matter what the offers really are...

Especially with teams dropping off like the Bucs and the Vikes..

Well, the first hurdle is getting the Texans' permission to meet with him. And I don't think that would happen unless there was a realistic framework they were willing to accept.

The bigger question is probably whether the Saints can sell Watson sufficiently on their cap situation and coaching staff. Tepper's going to tell him Rhule's gone after this year if Watson wants him gone. Will the Saints be willing to do the same And beyond that, if the Saints can get $35M open by Wednesday, can they sell Watson on the future? They can restructure him, but they'll have to kick down the road whatever they convert to signing bonus out of that.

Allbright reporting that Tepper has told DW he can pick the next HC.

A. No.

B. THEN WHY IS RHULE STILL EMPLOYED IN THE FIRST PLACE

If that's true, which I doubt, it's even more pathetic than I thought Tepper could get.  A guy like Brady, Rodgers, champions with years of success and service to their franchises and good moral character, those guys getting a say I understand.  But handing the keys over to Watson to make personnel decisions?  Why don't we just let him run our drafts?  Or come up with the gameplans?  Or make roster decisions?

Embarrassing.

Maybe because we didn't know what the outcome of the legal proceedings would be so it was too late to fire Rhule this late in the season.

    • That's a loser mentality. We moved up to pick number 1 just the season before last and what did that get us? A point guard. If you think having pick 7 instead of 3 changes our future you're trippin. Most people here were saying 4 or 5 wins this season would be considered a success. Now, we're almost there and some of you want us to lose every game for a roll of the dice.  Amazing what some people have become these days.
    • I don’t think you can point to a single game and say “that was great play calling”. But as you point out, he is getting better.  He’s not great but I don’t think people hate him and he has the locker room (it appears so). I think he has navigated the Bryce benching fairly well and I suspect he had to deal with some issues with Diontae and no one seems to be worse for wear so kudos to him.  If I had to guess I think when he retires from coaching most of his career will have been spent as an OC but that is my take and hope I am very wrong.
    • Glad we can find some common ground. It's nice that there are actually a few teams somehow worse than us for a change. That's my main takeaway from the last 2 games. Now let's just see how ugly things get the rest of the way.
