For you Pickett fans or those who missed his combine  (click "watch on youtube":

I watched the entire  combine a few weeks ago and saw all of the quarterbacks. While the combine does not show game day mechanics it does demonstrate basic abilities.

Riddler had good touch, but not a strong arm. He was fairly accurate at the mid and shallow range passes. He also led the receivers well when anticipating breaks.

Pickett seems to have good accuracy and a decent, but accurate deep ball. He doesn’t have quite the arm that the others have, but he did not any passes that the receivers had to wait for.

Strong was not as good in the accuracy department, but had the strongest (no pun intended) arm.

Willis was so so on accuracy, but had a really strong arm for his size. He almost matched Strong as far as how far he could throw it.

Howell had a big arm and can really sling it. However his accuracy was all over the place. He seems to lack touch on the short stuff and throw with the same intensity as he would on a deep pass. Even on the deep throws he can certainly get the ball near the receiver, but it seemed that they needed to chase it more.

For me it comes down to which type of quarterback would be the most valuable on game day. How often are the Panthers going to need someone that can throw a 60 yard pass versus one that is accurate at shallow to mid range. They also need to be able to throw a fair deep ball that hits the receiver in stride.

For me it comes down to two QB’s. I am not an advocate for drafting either one of them, but if the Panthers were to draft either Riddler, or Pickett, then I would understand why.

I'm usually as skeptical as anyone when it comes to news but it very well could be true like you say.

A lot of us fans want to wait until next year to draft a QB in a more talented class but a lot of fans are also expecting to to be drafting in the top-5.

I feel pretty confident in saying that Rhule, and Fitterer, and Morgan aren't expecting to be drafting in the top-5 next year based on all of the moves they have done the offseason.  They might very well be wrong, but they don't' have that mindset.

What if end up drafting 12-15 next year, at that point we might end up with QB5.  This year at 6 we could easily get QB1.  It is not crazy at all to believe that they might like the top QB in this class as much as the 4th or 5th QB in next years class.  Here again they might be wrong, but its not crazy to believe they are thinking that way.

I know Fitterer has spoken highly of Pickett on more than one occasion, and not just in generic GM speak. Specifics.

Whether they like him m enough to take him at 6 is another story, of course.

its not even Pickett so much of the idea that they might not convince themselves that will have another chance to draft a QB this high again.

I don't see Rhule, or Fitterer, or Morgan working on the assumption they will have a top-5 pick next year, or probably even top-10.

I think we can all agree they have been pretty aggressive this offseason, right or wrong they are expecting to be better next year.

In a vacuum, Pickett is the best of all remaining options, mostly due to his immediate potential. Pickett at 6 is a different conversation.

Teams never get to draft a QB where they'd like to. They draft them where they must IF they even can.

I don't even think it's close. I honestly have no idea how anyone watches these two QBs and convinces themselves Pickett is a better prospect. Put Pickett on UNC's team last year and he's a UDFA. Straight up.

Yeah, everyone knows what a powerhouse Pitt is. I guess you were right. What were we thinking?

Yeah he killed it. Watch some of his game tape too. He hits the long ball dead on the money. He escapes sacks, throws running to either side with accuracy and power. His throwing release is fast and he reads defenses. He can also score TDs with his feet. For a prospect, he has everything except the cannon arm but it's still a good arm. Give me accuracy over a wild cannon any day of the week!

Do you see those 50 yd bombs???!!! This dude can play.

at the beginning of the day, I was not on board with Pickett.  But watching this highlight video (and I get that is what it is) I look for things like release and feet.  This guy has great feet (Cam's were terrible, fwiw) and his release is quick. He seems to be reading the defense and making decisive throws.  I am in.

I just want a QB so damn bad.  I would even take him if there was a 30% chance he'd become a good one.  I think, once we add a Left offensive side lineman, that we may have the foundation for making a serious run.

Exactly. All these moves are for a team thats trying to compete. You want one of those top qbs next year you better be expecting to only win 2 or 3 games because thats what it's going to take. You win more now lookimg at trading multiple picks for a rookie.

They have operated in a win now mode for the past 2 seasons and it’s netted 10 wins total.  These morons don’t know how to build a team from the ground up
