I had the exact same thought, Dave.  I think we are going to draft Pickett.   We could have gone after Baker (no), Jimmy G (no), Minshew (no)--not a lot of options left.  If we are certain, then sign the LT and lets roll em.

You and I have always seen pretty much eye  to eye and you're much more in tune to college players than I am.

What's your take on Pickett?

Who knows with Rhule. He may be loving on Pickett right now. So the Falcons are probably out of the QB draft this year. Saints still eyeing Willis if u you read the tea leaves (back up Winston and sit for a year or two). Leaves J.G.dont want. That leaves Baker...or draft picks.

The Browns need to know that we are not going to eat the salary.  An even trade for QBs--both at the same salary on fifth year deals--gives the Browns a backup in Darnold and Baker to the Panthers.  We still draft a QB... All we are doing is giving the Browns a QB who is not butt hurt and we are taking a problem off their hands.  We could throw in a seventh rounder to make them feel better.

They signed Brissett yesterday as the backup

I think the Browns are content with Brissett as their backup at this point.

we could be doing nothing.  Let Darnold tank another year and take our pick of elite qbs in next years draft

Yeah that's not happening. Not after former head coaches publicly outing offers from ownership for purposely losing.

However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup.
