Observation: Panthers want to Draft a QB but...

Based on moves by the Panthers and Other teams… other teams in the top 5 do too.

The Panthers do want to Draft a QB and I do believe that Pickett is their top choice. This is based on the fact that his name just keeps popping up with the Panthers a lot, also tie ins with Tepper being a big Pitt Booster and Rhule previously trying to get him to Temple makes me believe this is their guy.

The issue is many teams ahead of the Panthers will be looking to Draft a QB early.

The picks in front of and around the Panthers:

1. Jags - not looking for a QB

2. Detroit - Not looking for a QB?

3. Houston Texans - Definitely looking at a QB

4. jets - Not looking for QB

5. Giants - possibly looking for QB

6. Panthers - definitely looking for QB

7. Giants (from trade) - possible QB

8. Atlanta - Definitely looking for QB.

So the Texans I’d say are definitely gonna Draft a QB at this point. The wild Card is the Giants at 5. I could see them moving on from Jones at this point and I could also see them trading with Atlanta if they’re not.

This is a contingency that the Panthers have to account for… so with that said I believe the Panthers are going to have a trade in place on the day of the first round of the draft to trade for a QB if one we like doesn’t fall to us at 6.

imo there are only 2 QB’s worth a top 10 pick in the draft. Outside of that we’d be reaching terribly.

Texans are probably taking the top QB in 2023. They already have their QBs for this season and Lovie is their tank-mander.

Lions likely don't see a QB worth taking at #2 and can take a flyer in the late 1st as they have pick #32 and pick #33 that they can package if someone they like falls.

The Panther most likely take the top QB on their board at #6 with a fallback of taking an elite OT. The biggest risk is a team (such as Atlanta, Seattle, or New Orleans) trading in front of us if they really like someone they think we are gonna take.

I am not sure I would say "risk." The more QB's come off the board ahead of us, the better the chance other teams will keep us from doing something very stupid(taking any of these QB's at 6).

I would love the Oregon pass rusher to fall to us. I’d just butcher his name if I tried

Thibodeaux?

Yeah, he would be great. Would rather have Neal/Ekwonu if they are available but I would not be upset at all about having another potentially elite pass rusher. I'd take the Michigan kid too.

I don't think the Texans are looking QB at all.  Davis Mills actually played really well last year for a rookie on a very bad team.  Arguably the second best rookie QB in the NFL last year.

Ditto the Giants. Management has repeatedly said they want to give Daniel Jones a chance to succeed. Of course, this could change as we get closer to the draft but that’s the word for now.

None of the QBs in this draft are worthy of a 1st round pick

Facts and I don't believe in reaching for a player based on need. We are sitting at 6 with so many talented options available. Take the best player. Don't reach for position of need.

Eh I think the only team defiantly looking for a QB at this point is Carolina and Atlanta. Jags don't, Lions might take one with the 32nd pick (a la Desmond Ridder) but even then I doubt it, Goff would be better than what they can draft now.  Texans seems to like Davis Mills, Jets have Wilson, and I think the Giants are going to give Jones one more chance with Daboll as a play caller. Only other team that I think might be interested in Pickett would be the Commanders, but they just gave up 3rd round picks to get Wentz, and I do believe they are trying to compete. I doubt Atlanta wants him because they got their eyes set on Wills (Atl guy), or I could see the Seahawks trade up and draft Willis (similar skill set of Wilson).

    • Another source: NFL Rumors: Hakeem Butler to Visit Panthers After UFL Success, Wade Phillips' Praise ZACH BACHAR JUNE 10, 2024 The Carolina Panthers are expected to conduct a workout with UFL wide receiver Hakeem Butler, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Butler recorded a league-leading 652 receiving yards as a member of the St. Louis Battlehawks. He was previously a fourth-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. After the Battlehawks were defeated by the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL Conference title game, Brahmas head coach and longtime NFL coach Wade Phillips told the receiver that "I'm going to tell everybody in the NFL that I talk to that you need to be playing," via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. Despite the loss by St. Louis, Butler still hauled in six receptions for a team-high 59 receiving yards. The 28-year-old was named the 2024 UFL Offensive Player of the Year, as he was one of only two wideouts to have multiple games with at least 100 receiving yards. While the Panthers added Diontae Johnson and first-round rookie Xavier Legette to their wide receiver room in the offseason, they could still use some depth in the form of Butler. Carolina isn't opposed to picking up former UFL players, as Rapoport revealed on Thursday that the team is also "expected" to sign All-UFL receiver Daewood Davis. Although Butler was selected by the Cardinals in the 2019 draft, he did not play as a rookie due to a hand injury and only appeared in two regular-season games as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. He did not record a catch. Butler signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2023 offseason, although he ultimately didn't make the team's regular-season roster. At 6'5", he has the frame to potentially make an impact in training camp and earn a shot at making Carolina's 53-man roster. If his workout goes well with the Panthers, Butler could give himself another chance to possibly return to the NFL.
