Panthers selected Tennessee OG Cade Mays with the No. 199 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.  

Mays (6’5/311) was a top-25 overall recruit who started for two years at Georgia before transferring home to start his final two campaigns at Tennessee. Despite missing three games with a left foot injury in 2021, Mays earned second-team All-SEC honors for his work as the Vols’ right tackle. He has five-position versatility along with his four years of starting experience. Mays also impressed with a 75th-percentile relative athletic score during pre-draft testing. Mays’ play strength stands out on tape, both as a drive-blocker in the run game and when dropping the anchor in pass-pro. His biggest issue is a propensity to pop up and play high with a narrow base, gifting the leverage advantage to opponents while compromising his balance. Like Matt Slauson, Mays may need to iron out the kinks early in his career before entering a starting lineup

      I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

      Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
