Charlotte “unlikely” to contribute taxpayer money for new Panthers headquarters

I’d be hesitant to offer funding for an underwhelming product as well. I’m not mad at the city of Charlotte for their position, and I’m not mad at Tepper for asking/trying.

At the end of the day, he’ll get what he wants.

Here's to hoping he wants a swift kick in the ass. 😆

Non story. There's no new information here. Threads/headlines like these are meant to drive clicks so people like Mr. Scot, LinvilleGeorge, Carl Spackler and CRA can poop their pants in excitement to come to the forum and post about how bad Tepper is. Tepper is paying for the facility, Rock Hill just bid that amount of money becuase they wanted it in Rock Hill and would provide the roads/water/electric/infrastructure so Tepper took that deal, then the silly town defaulted

...in todays world, were people are getting poorer by the day, I'm against billionaire welfare... people making 10 bucks an hour are going to help fund this poo...He can take his big bulbus chromium head and hit the road if he doesn't want to fund 3/4s..

I don't have an issue with using reasonable amounts of taxpayer money for a new stadium.

Half a billion?  That’s probably 1/3 of a fancy new stadium.  And that’s not the high end

True. Some( not you Mr. Scot) that you've mentioned come here to profess their hate for the team as if to say "hey look at me!" "I'm edgy...(in a passive aggressive way), and I hate this team...but keep coming back and posting". Of course, it's the Huddle.

I don't know the amount. But it doesn't have to be a flat sum. You can probably use things like a hotel tax.

I view a stadium in the same way I view the arts.

“Right now, we have other priorities we’re working with,” Graham said. “Dollars are limited. The biggest thing is we have other priorities.”

The local push and pull over taxpayer money has obvious relevance to the team’s desire to build a new stadium. Owner David Tepper will expect public money. What happens if he can’t get as much as he wants, or any at all?

Other cities have learned that lesson the hard way. Charlotte potentially could be next

Tepper stated  the following in  a previous Charlotte Observer article :

(“At some point, that building will fall down. Like I said before and I’ll say it again, I’m not building a stadium alone.” )

( “The community is going to have to want it. If I’m a third, and the community’s a third, and eventually in the future, personal seat license (owners) are a third, or whatever we do, it’s a partnership." )

( “If people don’t want it, they don’t want it. I’m not going to force it on anybody; I don’t want to force it on anybody.” )

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
