Our QB depth chart is Sam Darnold, PJ Walker and a 3rd round rookie.  He is the best option week 1 and it isn’t much of a debate.

why wouldn’t you want the best QB on the roster prepping all camp and preseason as the one in a brand new system with brand new teammates vs….other QBs stealing reps with the 1s he needs?

I think he is as well .. But I don't see a problem with him proven it.. Why is it so hard to understand.. If he is what we think and way better then Sam then the competition won't last all camp anyway..

I don't like Sam either but for 18 mil he can Atleast compete and give Baker more motivation to come here feel like he has to work for this opportunity..

What is wrong with that??

And it's better for the roster to see ppl will have to compete for jobs instead of it giving to them..

Why don’t you blow everyone then

Oh honey I'm sorry I had to be mean but someone had to nudge just a little sense into you. That man Sam Darnold making 18 million dollars to tickle his pickle all summer and fall does not need a knight in shining armor named Shocker. You'll be okay chin up!

The compete thing is coach speak and I think it happens all the time.  Similar to comments made about Ickey, I dont think the team wants to anoint anyone based on how they came to the team.  Probably sets a bad tone for the other 50 guys battling for PT.  I think everyone in the building including Sam would logically conclude that Baker will be the W1 starter barring some injury or unforseen fallout.

But cutting Sam is another matter.  I dont think cutting Sam gives you an advantage.  For all his faults, Sam seems like a team player and he does not seem to be a problem in the locker room and will probably accept whatever role.  Sam is going to make his cash and as a backup it is an easy way to make 19 million.  I think/hope Rhule and Co know they need to pay attention to the Rookie and make sure he has chances and can develop so something like this can be managed and not detrimental to his growth.  Not sure if all 3 will be active on game day but would hope the further we get into the season, barring injury it is more Mayfield and Corral if you are only suiting up 2 QBs.

I really don’t like the way Darnold is treated but he has to go earn it.  Cutting him is stupid

What’s the point of keeping him? Because you paid him? So what, you’re not going to get that money back or earned through his play. Cut your loses. It’s been proven over 5 years that there is 0 benefit from having Sam Darnold on your football team. All you’re going to do is ensure MC is a wasted pick. It’s like the gambler that keeps chasing, cut your loses and move the fug on.

You’re crazy if you think Baker needs more motivation.

Surprise surprise. From the fanbase that brought you unbridled hatred of Cam Newton for ten years there are actually two or three Sam Darnold stans here who still won't give it up.

Given that both Mayfield and Darnold were injured and missed games last year it makes no sense to get rid of Darnold.  As a backup he is serviceable and honestly with as many QBs that go down every year there may be some sense in keeping 2 or even 3 on the roster given how important the position is as long as you can fit it under the cap.

problem w/ the Sam as a backup thing.....is he is the polar opposite of what you look for in backup.   Corral fits because he is young and developmental.  For a vet, you would prefer a Teddy type as a backup.  Sam is a timebomb.   A game imploder.
