To everyone already calling Corral some booty

The guy clearly wasn’t set up for success. Our 3rd string or worse players are clearly terrible in comparison to the competition. Corral wasn’t confident out there and looked completely lost. I wouldn’t be so quick to judge until he actually gets a shot with some NFL players on his side. This doesn’t take away from the fact that he in fact stunk up his first NFL action badly. Food for thought.

Oh - and I fully expected Howell to look better early on.  He ran a more pro style offense in college, so of course the transition will be easier.  This game says nothing about career success.  Heck they might both be stars or might both be out of the league in a few years

You’re not wrong, but guys have to earn their reps in this league. He didn’t do that.

It’s highly unlikely he or Howell climb that ladder.

Too many guys, too few spots.

I agree with earning reps in principle, if that was reality.

Sam/PJ haven’t actually earned reps though. Sam’s contract has. PJ playing at Temple has.

The problem is he showed nothing. It's why everyone is upset.

If he came away with the same stats, but looked like he could navigate the pocket, had decent footwork, and could drive the ball then people wouldn't be worried. However, he didn't, he looked shaky on every snap.

Corral is fine in theory.  He wasn’t suppose to look good today. He is a rookie getting 4th string reps to date behind horrible OL play.

and the other 3rd round rookies you see play are getting more camp work.  They aren’t getting 4th string work.

will he be fine in the long run? Carolina was named as a team you didn’t want to be drafted to for a reason as a QB.   Who knows.  Not sure anyone can state Rhule is the guy to develop a young QB like Corral and will create a good place for someone like that to thrive.  OC is known for working with established Super Bowl champs too.  Not creating them.

Until we have less QBs ahead of Corral I don’t expect much from him.  Hope would be Rhule quickly corrects the QB mess ahead of Corral sooner rather than later.

Considering the investments made in the guys ahead of him and Rhule's commitment to give PJ a shot at getting a job somewhere else (he's really made for the USFL), then Corral's performance today is to be expected and probably is good for him.

He's got some experience in the room around him from actual starters and his OC has played with some of the best in the game. If he's going to have to sit for a season, this is the kind of situation that pans out well for a guy like him.

Then, there's the darker side of this that plays out well for Corral's future. The HC is playing for his own career here. If Rhule doesn't pan out and has to hit the road, Corral hasn't been tampered with much and won't have a bunch of bad habits for the next coach to contend with. He's got two guys ahead of him that are on the ends of their contracts, too, and a new regime could be tempted to cut bait with them next season and give Corral a better shot.

That line was absolutely abysmal, he had no time to do anything.  Not to mention little reps.  He didn't look great but I would like to see him behind a starting Oline before I trash him to the junk pile.

Rivera was trying to win the game.  He was bringing all sorts of heat.  Rhule didn't really put him in a position to succeed.

    • I mean in this economy, companies have to be smarter with their spending. Sending reporters to Charlotte to cover a moribund, Pop Warner-level franchise is the ultimate waste of money that should get execs fired. If the media were being kept out, they'd report that--it's the most self-important profession in the world. Even for the locals who know "Panthers suck yet again" stories get them no clicks. Bottom line, no conspiracy here. They're just not worth covering.
    • why cant they just let teams have their kicker kick it and then run off the field? Thats the only thing he can do and he also cant recover an onside. The kicking team will have 12 men to start, including the kicker, and then he runs off.  the new rule seems complicated. Not sure if Im going to like it or not. If they wanted more returns, they shouldve just gone back to the old way.
