Why would baker not be playing?  You'd think our first team needs some reps before cleveland.

From what I’ve read they see the joint practices as much more important then the game, so essentially no need for the game.

Got this from Panthers.com

Now that the league has reduced the preseason to three games instead of four, do the coaches view joint practices almost as a preseason game? — Eric, Jacksonville, FL

No, they view them as a much better alternative to a preseason game.

A game is dictated by a lot of random factors you can't control. So when they were looking at quarterbacks last week in Washington, one had to start his drive deep in his own territory, the other in the red zone after a turnover.

In a practice, if you want to see them both get 12 snaps of red zone work, you can script 12 plays of red zone work. If you want to concentrate on a two-minute offense, you can build a schedule to provide for that.

Letting quarterbacks wear red jerseys, which means they can't be hit, is a bonus. That allows them to get that work without the same degree of danger.

In terms of getting ready to play regular season games, joint practices are better than preseason games in practically every way. It's not as good a television product, and people aren't as likely to tailgate and drink a bunch of beer before a 9:30 a.m. practice (or maybe they are, who am I to judge?). But as an actual tool of instruction and evaluation? Give me a joint practice every time.”

This is why the starters are done until week 1, as they should be.

I dont like the reasons that CMC played against the Pats in practice.....but no PS games on his menu? Like did Bill tell Rhule the only way this happens is if CMC is juicing up his players for the week? Odd......

Because aside from that one hit that led to a scuffle the players weren't supposed to take shots at players, just wrap up and then the refs whistle the play dead. Not saying I agree with it but they kinda treat him like he should be wearing a red QB jersey

This 4 QB situation is one of the stupidest things in franchise history, I want off this wild ride.

Preseason used to be fun to watch the 3rd and 4th stringers. It’s weird watching Darnold and Walker play when they have no point being on the team. I guess Rhule is truly just giving them NFL tape out of the goodness or his heart, and to the detriment of the team.

One of them is going to be the backup qb. I don't think it unwise to make sure they pick the right one.

Here’s my guess. Baker is now the starter, so Darnold starts Q1, , PJ starts Q2 and Matt plays the second half. I hope I’m completely wrong on this (outside of the Baker official announcement) and Matt plays the first half and PJ second half.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
