Rhule is desperate, no patience for young developing players no matter how talented or athletic.  Nixon still has a lot to like but needs to be coached up.

A quick look at our roster and depth charts say the opposite.

Cutting a young guy doesn’t equal “Rhule hates young guys.”

I have no problem with it. Yeah I liked Nixon, but he was a 5th rounder. You can teach a DT techniques to get to the QB, but its harder to teach him not to get pushed around which is the #1 assignment for any DT in the league. Besides, he can be stashed on the practice squad and be 1 of the 55 of gamedays.

Don't get cutting Nixon over Bravvion Roy, among others.

I'm not alone...

He was outperformed by Hoskins, Roy, McCall etc. The only time he flashed last year was during the Colts joint practices. Aside from that, his 82 snaps over 7 games last season translated into just  half a sack, 1 solo tackle, and 2 QB hits.

There's no real surprise when we watch the performance on the field rather than the traits on paper.

Ellis likes players because of initial hype or because he interacts with them on Twitter.  Then never really alters his opinion based on play.

He is offering an opinion not based around being a kiss ass all the time. Yes the staff can and will make some mistakes. Like when we signed an LB then traded him while we went on to become thin at the position and he went on to become a pro bowler.

Then you haven't watched them play.

This is a very weird and slightly snotty take.

Nixon being cut is a surprise because he was cut over some guys that could easily be construed as worse. Now, is that a sinking versus floating turds argument? Most likely.

Curious to see if Nixon clears waivers and signs on the PS.

The idea of Nixon with great testing testing scores, defensive poy in college etc. was intriguing. But he did last to round 5 for a reason. I was hoping we got lucky with him but he hasn’t showed much in the run game. This is a run game upgrade, and we needed that. Wouldn’t be surprised if they expect to be able to sign him to the PS. Who would pick him up at this point? So a good overall move.

    • Jack Roslovic: Only 2 other UFA, right-handed centers age 28 or under had more points (39) than him- Sam Bennett (51) and Pius Suter (46). There were 4 other centers age 33 and older who scored more: Gireaux (37), Marchand (37), Tavares (34), Granlund (33).  Unless the Canes go old, if they let Jack walk, they won't get a center who scored more.  Thoughts?
    • nope     This is why we come back every year.  Hope springs eternal
    • It's important to differentiate criticism and hate. I can't speak for that individual you quoted. But most people who have been critical of the Tepper's have been so because both of them have made it a point to put themselves front and center and in the middle of team operations and we have been largely horrific more often than not as a result. If people are making derogatory remarks about her that should be met with an appropriate response but if people are being defensive just because she's being criticized all I can say is people should get used to it. Both her and David would have been getting absolutely skewered by the media and the fans if this were a big market franchise. The Lakers are finally being sold off after years and years of public criticism of Jeannie Buss and even though I'm the furthest you could go from being a Lakers fan just about anyone you could meet who is familiar with the NBA would say the criticism was certainly valid.
