Panthers cut Daviyon Nixon

From The Athletic...

Quote

the Panthers cut defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon, a 2021 fifth-round pick who had a season-ending knee surgery as a rookie. It seemed like a quick hook for a guy who was the Big Ten’s defensive player of the year in 2020.

But with six defensive tackles on the roster, someone had to go. And the Panthers valued undrafted rookie Marquan McCall and 2021 seventh-rounder Phil Hoskins over Nixon.

“You have to make tough decisions,” Rhule said. “Daviyon’s obviously a person we drafted, had the tough injury last year. Coming into this year, we couldn’t go in with that many defensive linemen. We’ve been happy with McCall and Hoskins.”

So apparently Rhule likes some of the undrafted guys more than Nixon.

They drafted a player, he got injured and he can't even get a practice squad spot after one year? Then amongst each other they feel he didn't have the skill to play NFL Football. And he was cut to keep Hoskins? Make it make sense.

He probably has a shitty work ethic and/or personality and this was the polite way of putting it

A lot of these kids have no idea how to work or act in a professional setting, just because they are in the NFL doesn't mean they are suddenly mature. Watch any season of hard knocks and you'll see players that don't get it, at all.

It's simple... Nixon got outworked by McCall and Hoskins, no need to keep the dead weight for a backup player

This scene contradicts an earlier scene when he struggled to read the word "The".  Remember, T--tuh--th-- The!  Yet he reads this headline quickly.  I hope that ruins the movie for some of you--that is what I do.

It makes sense if you watched the games.

    • What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
