100% SPECULATION: Panthers MAY BE open to re-signing Baker for 2023

ESPN’s Dan Graziano “wouldn't be surprised” if Baker Mayfield returns as the Panthers’ starter in 2023.

Mayfield set career lows before shoulder surgery ended his season in Week 14 last year. Re-signing with the Panthers, who traded for Mayfield in July, is in play if Mayfield rebounds closer to what he was in 2020. Mayfield looked healthy in his Panthers’ debut, throwing for 235 yards with two touchdowns. With third-rounder Matt Corral (Lisfranc, IR) returning and only four picks in the 2023 draft, the Panthers may look to re-sign Mayfield rather than replace him this offseason.

Don't blame the team for being open to the idea, but if they're in position to take a top QB prospect and pass on him because they would rather pay Baker a lot of money, that would be a huge mistake.

No way they are thinking about resigning him after one game.  Hell Darnold looked ok through 3 games last year and we see what that got us.

Why wouldn't we be open to him coming back? We're one game into the season. If he plays well he SHOULD be back.

His value on this team this year is likely to go down a lot more than up. Just wait to try until after the season and draft a QB regardless. He is likely on a path for another prove it deal next year if we don't do something silly like this.

It's funny how every fuzzy metric is used to prop up a Baker Mayfield, while previously every metric was used against Cam Newton.

Ex: we knew we couldn't win if Cam wasn't efficient the whole game, he'd get nitpicked to death.

Baker has a terrible game where he finally pulls his head out of his ass three quarters late and he's the second coming of Drew Brees.
