Rhule (the college coach)

Wow I didn’t know he was that bad.

I have a theory about Rhule. He didn’t really turn Baylor around like people think. Baylor was going to be a decent team anyhow and just had a bad season because of the disciplinary actions of the scandal and players leaving. Baylor was a good enough and popular enough school that it would have naturally improved itself over time. They actually would have an easy time recruiting players because they could offer them playing time for a big 12 school, something they might not have been able to get elsewhere.

Put it this way, if I was a fan of program in complete shambles just looking to get back to being able to actually compete on the football field I'd be happy about a Rhule hire. He's shown he can do that. I'm looking at you, Nebraska.

If I'm a fan of a good program that being competitive but just not winning to the level we want and trying to take the step from competitive to contender I would not be happy about a Rhule hire. That's what he has not shown that he can do. I'm looking at places like Auburn in this category.

I still do not understand how his name was hot at the time of his hire. His resume was not very good yet he was being pumped up and posters here called that out at the time. It was complete BS. Fug the hot name. Give me a competent name.

I can stand a miss but this one was too damn obvious. 'But he made mid teir programs competitive but not good'...in schooll. Who gives AF? Like seriously how good is his agent to make chicken poop into meatballs and Hurney & Tepper ate that all up. He was never a good candidate for HC in the NFL or even school.

I don't even think Rhule was in the majority of the Huddle's top 5 at the time. For me personally,  his name came out of left field. My list was 1. Greg Roman 2. Matt Eberflus 3. Eric Bieniemy 4. Robert Saleh and 5. Mike McCarthy

Once I heard Rhule's name getting thrown out there, I went and did some research. Once I saw he couldn't even beat ranked teams I wanted nothing to do with him. College coaches already have a TERRIBLE success rate, and you're going to get one who can't even beat ranked teams? Not to mention he was already blowing leads in college, blowing a 28-3 lead against Oklahoma.

I wanted different coaches but I felt the same about Rhule. Total WTF? type move for me. Looked him up and feared this kind of mess. He wasn't even a good coach at that level and the one hope was that Snow would be solid.

I still don't understand the hype. It should have been hot like radioactive and not desirable.

Pretty much.  How hard is it to turn around a Big 12 program to above average? It basically took 3 recruiting cycles.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
