Catcrave 4 QBs if panthers drop out of top 10

I shared germane of this article as a pretty good but simple high level overview of life after Young, Stroud, Levi’s

From by Dean Jones1 hour ago

Carolina Panthers could draft Tanner McKee

Even though it hasn’t been the final season at Stanford that Tanner McKee hoped for, his effortless throwing motion and impressive attitude are sure to generate some interest from around the league. The size, arm strength, and mechanics mean there is plenty to work with, but it’ll take some time before the prospect is ready to assume command under center at the next level.
McKee’s production sometimes doesn’t match the exceptional physical attributes at his disposal. The signal-caller needs to improve his touch and processing upon arriving in the pros, so it would be a real project for the Carolina Panthers if they went down this particular route.

Carolina Panthers could draft Michael Penix Jr.

If the Carolina Panthers do enough to put themselves out of the running for Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud – which is entirely possible if their recent form is any indication – then those in power must cast a wider net in pursuit of landing a franchise player at the position.

There are some intriguing talents lower down the draft. Although it’s widely expected that only Young or Stroud come with immediate Day 1 starting potential unless something drastic occurs during the evaluation process.

Someone like Michael Penix Jr. is a prospect to monitor. The Washington standout has all the athletic attributes needed to become a force over time, but expecting miracles right away would be unrealistic.

One thing that stands out where Penix is concerned centers around decision-making and a rapid-fire release. There is also more than enough accuracy over short-to-intermediate routes to suggest more is possible with professional coaching.

Penix has the footwork to avoid pressure in tight windows. Considering his explosiveness, it’s a surprise to see such limited work as a dual-threat weapon during his college career to date.

The signal-caller doesn’t have elite arm strength and footwork can cause complications. But there’s no doubt Penix is gaining momentum at the right time and could enter first-round contention with a strong evaluation process.

Carolina Panthers could draft Cameron Ward

Having someone that can excite under center is something the Carolina Panthers haven’t possessed since Cam Newton was at the peak of his powers. A series of failed quarterback moves at football’s most important position ended up being Matt Rhule’s undoing, so their next personnel move in this area must be correct to stand any chance of real progress.

Given the momentum currently surrounding the team, Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud could be out of the question. That could lead them into a feast or famine gamble while they figure out what to do with their 2022 third-round selection, Matt Corral.

If this is the avenue they go down, then Cameron Wardis worth examining closer. The signal-caller had a tremendous campaign for Washington State and even though there is plenty of refinement needed before he can start in the NFL, the upside is there for all to see.

Ward has an NFL-caliber arm, which is always a solid foundation from which to build. He is largely accurate and seemingly fearless when it comes to fitting balls into tight windows, which can prove to be his undoing if the decision isn’t correct.

His confidence is remarkable for a player with relatively little in the way of experience. But pre-snap recognition needs refinement against professional defenses that can sniff out weakness a mile away.
This would be a two-year project for the Panthers, which would allow them to see what they have in Corral or someone else if another opportunity comes along in the short term.

Carolina Panthers could draft Anthony Richardson

Anthony Richardson is not just a development project.

He’s the ultimate development project.

Richardson’s gradual progression in 2022 could see him become a top 15 selection after he stars at assessment events such as the NFL Scouting Combine. But anyone expecting the second coming of Cam Newton is kidding themselves, at least initially.

There is a supreme rawness to Richardson’s game which means his elite traits need to be managed with extreme care. At times he looks like an absolute world-beater despite the lack of talent at Florida, but his decision-making and processing let him down on occasions.

The dual-threat ability to blow away any defense and change the course of a game is rare. Teams will always bet on skills like this pretty high up the pecking order, but Richardson needs a stable organization with proven coaches capable of nurturing this talent into a quarterback that can take the NFL by storm.

That’s why it’s so important for the Carolina Panthers to get their next head coach and the staff working under him right. Steve Wilks has laid a strong claim, but his defensive background indicates some fresh ideas on offense are almost guaranteed if team owner David Tepper removes the interim tag.

Richardson’s ceiling could literally be anything. That’s how gifted he is.

But rushing him too soon into any starting lineup could come with grave ramifications.

Great coaching will be more important than the QB we pick. We need a new HC and staff that knows how to spot and develop a QB. If we had a coach that I could trust on the offensive side then the entire QB process would feel more like a fun ride and less like an obstacle course when looking at QBs.

If we're idiots and drop out of the top 10 we might as well go BPA and see what we have in Corral. His draft grade and anyone else in this weak class will be the same or worse.

We could do both. I think most of these guys will be there at the top of the second. I actually like the idea of BPA in round one. And if Levis is off the board, there will be no temptation to overreach to force a QB pick.

What would be your proposal to ensure we secure a top 10 pick?  Bench Burns, Horn, DJ, etc.?  Kneel the ball on 4 straight downs every possession?  Cause saying we'd be "idiots" for dropping out of the top 10 would suggest there's some course of action in our power that we should be taking to secure that top 10 pick.  I'm just curious what that would be at this point in the season, in your eyes.

Once we're out of it, and in this division that could be week 18, play the young guys primarily and see what we have on our roster. We need to have some real game film on what we have for assets. Now a move like this may or may not result in losing, but I care less about a top 10 pick if we have 2 or 3 guys, like maybe Cade Mays, who can actually contribute and just need to see the field to prove it.

I've kinda resigned myself that we're going to really fug ourselves and won this awful division. Tepper deludes himself into thinking we've arrived instead of seeing the reality that this is an all-time awful division. He then rewards Wilks with a new contract to be the head coach. We then get the poo kicked out of us in a home playoff game by the Cowboys and reality sets in that we have not arrived, we still desperately need a QB, and now we're by far the worst team holding a pick in the bottom third of the 1st round. Talk immediately starts on whether Wilks will be a one year and done HC again and greatly hampers his ability to hire a quality staff.

So basically, just business as usual in the Tepper era.

Wilks is 3-4. If we win the division, he will most certainly have a winning record. Then we curb stomp the Cowboys, but lose a close one at Philly? Can we then think about Wilks?

Give THIS team a quality QB, and we may be quite competitive.

We're going to curb stomp Dallas with ... Sam or PJ as QB???

Anyway, who do you think a "quality" QB is that could lead this team onward next season?

Y'all do realize that we can move in the draft to get a QB?

Both KC and Buffalo traded up for their franchise guys.  We can do that too.  It's not the end of the world so long as you make the right decision.

Ask former players how cool they are with the idea of tanking?  How many of them, who have families to feed, are going to say "yeah, let me make it harder to earn money by playing badly or just not playing" so a 21 year old kid can come in and save they day all by themselves?

This team is not that terrible.  Sure, they have lots of areas to fix, including the QB this off season, but putting your entire franchise future on a top 10 pick is a bit much, even for the huddle.

Some of y'all just need to chill out.

    • or you could call him Bomanicious   I'm going with King Tet
    • T-Mac put up good numbers for 3 consecutive seasons on teams without a good QB situation, and in an environment where T-Mac got game planned against weekly and still performed. Teams threw all kinds of defensive coverages against T-Mac, and he still found ways week in and week out to contribute at a high level. XL was basically a 1-year wonder. Doesn't mean he cant be great (and I think him & T-Mac will compliment each other well), but i think T-Mac is the more polished of the 2 right now. This certainly isn't a perfect comparison, but I hope XL & T-Mac can approximate what we had with Smitty & Moose (Although i think T-Macs ceiling is higher than Moose and XLs ceiling is lower than Smitty). Both those guys were multiple Pro Bowlers and even All-Pro. T-Mac & XL have a long way to go to actually being comparable, but the potential is there. And regardless of how this season turns out, you can actually see a strategic plan being executed. On paper, I think this offensive roster has as much talent as any Panthers team since 2017. Defense is still a question mark, and it's unrealistic to think we will go from being historically bad to great in 1 year, but based on historical and statistical data, we stand a much better chance of turning the defense around in 1 year than the offense. I still want us to potentially add at S, CB, and ILB, but this roster is exponentially better than the roster heading into the 2023 season. Which still begs the question of how & why the team thought they were in a good position to trade all the way up. Regardless, it's in the past, and while the past 2 years have mostly sucked, we are strategically in a much better position than we have been in years. This is easily the best WR group since 2020 IMO (Moore, Anderson, Samuel). I'm super excited about what T-Mac can bring to this offense and team, and I'm really hoping we continue to build off where we ended last year offensively, and hopefully we've made enough improvements on defense to be competitive. I've also been vocal for the most part in supporting BY9. He came into an awful situation and to a team that was in no position to make such a trade.   Still, this is Year 3. And this is a team that IMHO has both the talent & depth on offense to score and score a lot. Most QBs that ever amount to anything are competing by Year 3. There are no excuses for the offense not to perform. I think BY9 knows full well what's riding on this year in terms of his long term future.  And I think T-Mac is a massive piece in helping Bryce and the team get over the hump and back into playoff contention.
