Better than the 6-10 we've become used to. This team almost made the playoffs and won the division with Matt Rhules roster and Wilksy.

Put Harbaugh or Reich at HC with a draft and off-season we're automatically in the running. With Harbaugh the NFCS and NFC would sh*t their pants. They don't want any of that.

what we’re used to isn’t what we are trying to hire someone new to replicate. if you’re looking for a new HC who you hope will make you a perennial contender, 9-8 is not what you should consider an example of success. Reich has not shown any consistent success as a HC.

So if we interview Kafka today, Payton on Monday and already did with Dorsey yesterday and don't announce a hire by Wednesday/Thursday, would Steichen be perceived as the leader in the clubhouse?

That sounds about right. I am all for the Panthers hiring Steichen.

Side note: McDermott's 4th down play calling in this game is another indictment against defensive head coaches. Just doesn't understand the flow of this game - the Bengals offense is strafing the Bills D and you're gonna need to put up points to get this to OT. Cowardly punts just like Wilks vs Tampa Bay.

No lies to be seen anywhere.

Kafka and Dorsey out of the running with absolutely dreadful gameplans in the playoffs. No way you can hire either of them over Wilks after those games.

So instead of taking a chance with Kefka we hire a coach from the same tree as McDermott and watch as offensive HC walks  all over Wilks.
Kafka may not be the answer but neither is Wilks.
Defensive HC do not succeed in the modern NFL. This Bills vs Bengals game is proof of that.

I never said to hire Wilks. I said that you couldn't hire them over Wilks.

Which means they out of the running.

Historically an owner will over commit if the past hire was really bad.

Rhule was unproven with no HC experience,  the next HC for the Panthers will have HC experience Historically speaking.

So it's Wilks, Payton or Reich basically.

    • I understand why people say things like it could be worse in relation to Tepper but it just doesn't jive for me. Are the optics bad? Yes. Would I want her to be the owner of my team? No. But I mean she's only been owner for a year and the Colts overall are a better run organization. As far as I know they've also never had the distinction of having the worst win percentage in all of professional sports either. Tepper has owned this team for 8 years and about the only thing that has been consistent has been the ability to continue to find different ways to achieve new lows. Even now people are saying things are different yada yada but we said these same things at certain points under Rhule Fitterer and Reich. I'm going to wait to see how the rubber meets the road this upcoming season before I make any strong conclusions about anything in relation to the longevity under this franchise going forward.
    • This is a toughie because I wonder what a guy like Canales thinks about redemption stories for addiction issues. Also, I think this is a case of 1 player getting caught, and not being naive enough to think this isn't more common in college than we think. I'd toss a 3rd rounder out there. 2026 is essentially a redshirt season regardless, so he's not taking over for any NFL QB next year. Best case, he's ready to go in 2027 if we pass on Bryce's extension. Worst case, he's our future backup QB2. Kid has the tools to be an NFL QB. I do think we could somehow land a '26 3rd round pick back in a trade. Our past years' third rounders are: Brazzell Princely Wallace DJ Johnson Matt Corral All this to say, I could see a team like the Jets going w/ a 2nd. They have three FRPs next year.
