What exactly happened to Cam's shoulder? I remember with Jake it was Tommy "Jone" but is Cam's shoulder degenerative as well?

How can you not know what happened and when it happened if you are a Panthers fan, especially if you are a Cam fan? I hear this a lot from so called Cam Newton fans. If you watched him play it would be ingrained in your mind. I will never be able to got either injury out of my mind.

Let me tell you. I’ve had 2 shoulder surgeries and an elbow surgery on the same arm. Those 2 shoulder surgeries, as much as they helped, i still don’t have the same use as my shoulder used too. I’m going to have to have another shoulder surgery probably at some point as well. I had both an ac joint separation and a torn labrum, and honestly now my shoulder is probably 75 percent what it used to be.

A fat fug named Kelvin Benjamin.

A fat fug named David Gettleman.

A not-so-fat fug named Ron Rivera.

An asshole named TJ Watt.

A literal car crash.

An asshole named Ryan Vermilion.

A league that let players take free shots and treated him differently than any other QB.

Some dumbass dietician.

And lastly, Cam for listening to the dumbass dietician.

I believe it was a combination of things, much of which has already been shared on this thread. Ultimately I think it came down to Ron's usage of Cam. The offensive scheme required Cam to make up for all the deficiencies (poor play calls, long developing plays, poor o-line) by making a play with his arms. If the play wasn't there he was expected to make the play with his legs (#1 reason why I didn't want Wilks because he expected this of Sam as well, Ron 2.0). By they time they (Ron and company) realized that their philosophy was unhealthy, the damage had already been done to Cam.

Wth is Tommy "Jone"? There is a Tommy John surgery, which is elbow. See Brock Purdy. Am I missing something here?

Is a board in joke from back when Jake had Tommy John surgery and some drooling idiot messed up in a post.  It became a thing that has never left us.

I think the shoulder was a scapegoat for the circumstances he’s been under the last couple of years, since he didn’t play at all this year it was kinda clear the patriots situation was not great, evident by mac Jones performance this year and that’s with better offensive talent.

we don’t even have to mention our situation the last couple years, rhule made every single qb under him look like they had no business in the nfl

I think the time came where cam was no longer able to carry bad teams and the nfl, fans, etc looked at it as being “washed”. Idk what’s the deal with him not being a backup but I’m sure he’d be a better options than these backups we’ve seen this year, especially Josh Johnson and Huntley

Cam tore his shoulder tackling a guy after a pick. Was never the same after that. The tj watt hit was the icing on the cake. Folks that actually watched the games saw exactly what happened and when.

KB didn't come to play that day and ran a lazy route out of bounds I think, the pick happens and Cam who cared more that day sprinted to make the tackle when KB couldn't care less.

Cam rehabbed from that and TJ Twatt. The problem was and continued to be the same, nobody but Rod Chuszinsky ever bothered to build a offense for Cam Newton.

If someone promised that he could play today, they aren't so why then. He's got almost a million subscribers on YouTube, he's good.

Definitely stemmed from the Chargers 2016 game. After watching it again, I had forgotten that Cam didn't even need to attempt a tackle anyways because the play should had been called dead before that point. And yes, this was similar to Jake's injury in Atlanta where they would never throw as hard ever again. However, Jake's arm was pretty much shot and stayed there while Cam still had some arm but got worse over time.

shoulder surgeries are often the most difficult joint to come back from even in normal people. often times, the shoulder has to scar down to a point were the joint becomes stable again but at the same time causes a noticeable reduction in range of motion, thus lesser function and power production. on the other end, if you rehab shoulder surgery too aggressively and not allow proper scarring, the shoulder could be come too loose and unstable.

Yep, all of this.

For the shoulder it's all about scar tissue being allowed to form and not rushing back.  You are still never the same.

#CamSlanderMustStop

Slander is spoken.  This is written.  It would be libel, not slander--but its not.

For it to be slander or libel there has to be damages.

Fans on a discussion board are not causing Cam personal injury in any way.

Anyhooo....there's that.

Wow, there sure are a lot of false narratives still surrounding Cam, aren't there? Namely this whole "inaccurate" and "not the best passer stuff", which isn't really true past 2014.

Anyway, to answer the OP question there's a bit more to the story than some of the posts you're getting here are leading on. He did injure his shoulder on an int return that KB halfassed, the play itself was just a jumpball to KB that he didn't try for at all. But the return itself, which is what he injured his shoulder on, should've been blown dead. KB clearly downed him and there was a ref standing right beside the play and they still allowed it to go on. Cam dived for the defender to make a tackle and fuged up his shoulder in the process.

Oh and did I mention that the return got reversed shortly after? Because you know, everyone with a pair of eyes could see that KB touched him. We got fuged by the refs more than anything; KB's half ass effort allowed the int to happen in the first place but them not blowing it dead when it should've been was the ultimate, direct cause. Here if you'd like to rewatch this infuriating, franchise-altering sequence -

In 2018, while the TJ Watt hit is a convienent scapegoat, we don't actually really know what caused his shoulder to start deteriorating the way it did. That hit was malicious as fug and certainly didn't help matters no doubt, but the following two games Cam still played decently -

After this stretch is when the deterioration started becoming more obvious. We had to send Henicke out to attempt a hail mary from mid field against Tampa - if you're having to put your backup in to attempt hail maries, you should as a coaching staff know it's time to take him out but apparently this was a foreign concept to Ron. So we can't really be sure what caused it; esp considering his shoulder held up fine in 2017. Whatever it was, his shoulder deteriorated as the year went on and that attempt at a game winning drive against New Orleans late in the year is still one of the most pitiful and upsetting memories I have from watching this team.

    • You should because before the preseason fiasco and the start of the season fiasco, all the reports, including Frank’s responses, were that Fitterer and Reich were in lock step. Remember the press conference where Fitterer talked about both he and Frank saying who they wanted before and after the draft process and that they both picked Young and it was glorious? People got hung up on Tepper saying the point guard analogy in April when Brown was interviewed by a Panthers reporter describing how a QB needs to be a point guard in huge detail. That was in February. I think Tepper was just parroting Brown to make himself look like he knew what he was doing. Mrs. Tepper hugging Bryce always overshadowed CJ saying how he called her Mama Tepp. We fuged up as a team, probably more so because Fitterer always said he had Young as his #1 the year before, probably because we looked at all the QBs that year as well. Reich’s love for CJ started when he got on the hot seats for frankly doing a horrific job. He's been in the league a long time and has a lot of media friends and that was a face saving CYA which we know well with many years of Hurney. Still amazing to think how much better the team was under Rhule/Hurney before Fitterer got any control when Rhule was on the hot seat.
