Rumor: The Prodigal Son And The Road Home

My good friend who's a huge Giants fan sent me this this morning. The rumor from Giants fans is big Daniel Jones has his eyes on returning home to Charlotte and obviously his favorite team growing up in Charlotte your Carolina Panthers.

There's no question Danny Jones played his butt off this last season and basically carried that offense until they ran into a real playoff contender a more complete roster.

Not a popular choice here but Daniel Jones at 6'5" 230+ with 67% completion percentage in the NFL (Brady,Brees level), a gifted run threat with the size and strength to get those tough yards, arm, accuracy.

Derek Carr!?

Daniel Jones is a SUPERIOR QB look at all his rankings. Yards, INTS, QBR?! Nothing below top 15, nothing. He never had receivers or a line in front of him like we have now so with targets instead of JAGS all those stats will rise, and if they do the already special DJ will be a f'n problem for the NFL AND he wants to do that for his state, his city, his family.

Daniel Jones! I welcome you.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Giants will place the franchise tag on Daniel Jones if he isn't signed to a contract extension by Tuesday.

Tuesday is the deadline to assign the franchise tag to a player. Jones is reportedly asking for $45 million per year. That would make him the fifth highest-paid quarterback in the league, tied with Patrick Mahomes. Jones played arguably the best football of his career in 2022. He ranked as the 11th-best quarterback in EPA per play and sat at No. 19 in adjusted yards per attempt. Still, top-five money at the position seems like a rich ask from Jones, and the Giants apparently agree. The two sides are reportedly not close to a deal, making the franchise tag all but inevitable.

If I were a pro QB, I’d take 25 million per year instead of 40 to play for the Panthers.

What am I really going to do with 40mil per year that will make my life extraordinarily better than earning 25mil per?

My answer is nothing that would overcome playing QB for my favorite team in my home state. Not claiming D Jones shares that sentiment.

I cannot see anyone giving up 2 firsts and 45 mil per for Daniel Jones.

    • I don't really care as much about athleticism and arm strength.  While Murray might be better in that regard, I think Bryce has enough of both to do well in the NFL. The main reason this trade reference is silly is the money and the fact that Murray has been around a long while and hasn't proven that he can perform consistently when the game is on the line.  Bryce has shown that he can play well in the clutch (in the few opportunities he has had).
    • If Bryce can continue the level of play he showed after the benching, then there's a good shot we at least compete to win the division. Tampa is a solid team but even last year in our week division they went 10-7 and will be on their 4th OC in as many years. The Saints are a mess and are in a mist of a half rebuild half still trying to compete mode and will probably be starting a rookie QB. The Falcons are a wild card as they have a really good offense but are we really crowning Michael Penix as a franchise QB after just 3 games?  The only thing I want out of this season is for Bryce to come out and without a shadow of a doubt prove he's our franchise QB. If that happens then most of the fanbase would be happy and I believe we'd be in a good place record wise at the end of the season. Maybe falling just short of winning the division with a chance to sneak in as a wild card team.
