Per Rich Eisen: “The Bears are long down the road to trading the first overall pick. The teams have been identified, compensation is being hammered out.”

Everyone just assumes we would be drafting Stroud in this hypothetical trade up. I'm not at all certain that's true.

This scares me man…giving up 3 firsts or more to go up for someone that isn’t Young or CJ is terrifying.  lol

Don’t think so at all. I’d say young is favorite

Selecting him without giving up future picks is one thing. Trading up from nine to take a QB who is shorter and lighter than Matt Corral is a very risky move for a GM who needs a legit QB now.

Yeah I mean why would we want a career 67% passer, a little over 4k yards a season, 2.5:1 TD:Int ratio and almost 100 QB Rating

Is he Pat Mahomes? No, he's pretty fuging good though and the fact that you think ending up like Dak is a DOWNSIDE is hilarious.

Trading THREE FIRSTS FOR DAK is hilarious. He played in the big10 with constant WR1s. Why do we ignore this? Did Bryce play with Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxson Smith Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr, Emeka Egbuka… who are all first round WR! Does levis? Does ar? We are not surrounding Stroud with this talent gap and how do we know Stroud makes something out of nothing? Yeah, fine, cherry pick numbers but ignore all other circumstances.

Fields had a 68.5 rating, paced for 3600 passing yards, had a 67-9 td/int ratio in college and yet we passed on that for a CB! (Which I’m happy we did because horn is a dogs dog). Yet Fields gets into the nfl and there is no improvement and the team is picking first , two years later. Why? Because the cast you put around these qb matter! Unfortunately this team doesn’t have the talent around him to emulate what happened at OSU. We don’t have Garrett Wilson, Olave, MHJR, JSN, or anything of that nature. We have solid and sturdy Dj Moore and trending to bust TMJR ( who I feel can turn it around).

By not having these firsts, how are we helping out Stroud? “2024 cap space” which is FOURTEENTH best in the NFL? Where is our Chase? Where is our Hill and Kelce? Where is our Stefon Diggs? I do not doubt that Stroud will be a SOLID NFL QB. But I sincerely do not see franchise potential and we will not be able to surround him with premier talent.

If it’s not us it will just start the trading for pick 3 saga.

That's already started. Pretty sure there is a thread on here about moving to 3.

With Carr gone, I'm 100% sure we're moving up. Idk if it will be 1 or 3. If we can't secure one of those, might as well stay put, or make a move on draft day based on how the board falls.

To keep our '24 and '25 firsts? To draft a player like.....Burns?

Shoot higher. Rams are looking to trade some solid players, so I’d keep their picks and trade ours.

Also, here’s the haul:

Rams 2023 2nd (pick 36)

Rams 2024 1st

Rams 2025 1st

Multiple FAs using Burns’ cap space $25-30M a year.

Don’t care about replacing Burns, there are guys like Ngakoue, Reddick, Judon and this is the deepest edge rusher class in years. I only would have cared about the overall value we could have gotten like getting our franchise QB and still have multiple 2nds and 2024/2025 1sts to put weapons around the rookie QB say like a top TE in a deep class this year and maybe a guy like Marvin Harrison Jr next year.

Now we’ll have Burns, a rookie QB and the same weapons we have now.

    • I thought his contract was fat to make it happen and no one really thought he would playout at least that 4th year, just a bonus year to make the numbers work while including the guaranteed money that made it happen. It could be his last contract and to me it reads as he has 2 years and then they will see what happens then at a higher then normal cost. That QB room and the owner/gm meeting room away from cameras too. Just depends on the personality types. Cousins is a old pro with a fat contract and a no trade clause. IT could blow up or be just fine this year. By next year that's when it ramps up. Cousins could get a trade done and find another spot to finish this contract. It's 35 mil dead cap to cut/trade him after year 2 and 12.5 mil dead cap after year 3. If Cousins wanted to play somewhere else then he could give that a try but either way after year 2 the team has options. If the rookie grows and is worth it at year three then even that dead cap would just be a normal QB pay outside the rookie wage scale. Looks like they may get 1 year of rookie pay advantage and then the option year if things go well for them so 3 years lost and 2 left.  They should have given a heads up to the owner, Cousins tho. They had plenty of time to say what the plan was. Cousins isn't young but it's still a trashy move when he just got there 2 months ago. That was also a rather big move considering the player and their needs. Just dumb way of doing it all IMO but I always get 'it was for a QB and you have to take shots when you see them'.
    • That is correct and valid, and I def thought of it--but filling needs and building is one brick at a time.  The Panthers cannot afford to miss on 75% of their day 2 and 3 picks as is the norm.
    • Thanks Frank.  I enjoyed the video and agree we have been saying alot of the same thing-- The biggest question mark on the OL is not center--it is left tackle.  This has to be Ickey's year. Sanders getting cut does not make sense.  If he can look good behind a good OL, and if Brooks is going to be phased in (injury), you keep him because it makes no financial sense to cut him this year. The only reason I could see keeping Ian Thomas on the roster is goal line offense.   I personally think his blocking is overrated. This guy said JT Sanders was also a good blocker--I have not seen that.  However,  I think Tremble and Sanders has the potential to be a good TE combo. He was hard on the CB selection in the draft.  5th round for a depth CB is fine.   I am not sure what he was expecting.  I think they are going to sign another former Gamecock who used to play CB soon. Finally, he is realistic about Young's year, but he is in "wait and see" mode.  That is how you approach it.  Cut him before building around the QB position or build around the QB position and give him another year?  It is a no brainer. We are probably going to sign a free agent QB to keep on the PS when cuts are made.
