There seems to be a sizable portion of the fanbase that thinks size trumps skill and talent

Availability trumps any ability any player can have

Size is a factor in availability

Hence, size is a factor in the equation, period, end of discussion.

That's not to say Stroud is the pick over Young solely on size alone, but it's 100% a factor, and in the end, if you're close on the ability of each player, to me that size factor is the deciding factor in the end when it involves a player of Young's size.

If he was 6' and 215-220 lbs, then it might be different, but he's 5'10" and weighed in at 204 (which let's be real, he didn't work out there, he likely packed on a good 5-10 lbs solely to weigh in at the combine and has likely already lost that weight).

Basically the opposite of boxing or MMA, where a fighter cuts all that weight before weigh in to make the limit and then puts 10-15 lbs back on before they actually fight.  He likely packed on a ton of water weight in the days before being weighed in.

They remind me of a guy that used to run a successful but niche business. Who was that guy? hmmm GIF

Oh yeah! It's this guy

He always loved size more than talent. That's why he tried making guys like this Ultimate Warrior Wwe GIF and this 200.gif his stars over guys like this wrestlemania viii wrestling GIF by WWE and this Ringmaster-And-Ted-DiBiase-Cropped.jpg before, like certain former Panther coaches, he was forced to play younger talent. It also helped that one of those younger, smaller guys Steve Austin Wrestling GIF by WWE became the biggest star his niche business ever had.

TLDR: Talent matters more than size

Wrestling isn't real.

Bryce Young’s performance against Texas concerned me. Texas doesn’t even have that good of a defense and they showed how Young responded to pressure in his face. He was skying balls over receivers heads and his scrambles to the edge were slow. Some pundits claimed this was because of the scheme that can be fixed at the pro level. But he’s not much of a runner so if he can’t deliver accurate passes under pressure it’s not a problem that will get better in the pros. Someone like Kyler Murray gets away with his diminutive size because of his speed and rushing ability. But Young doesn’t have that level of athleticism. And his arm vs CJ Stroud are pretty much even in my opinion. I’d rather take Stroud all things considered.

From this past season? The same game he completed 69.2% of his passes for 213 yards and a TD while also running for 38 yards after going 18-28 the week prior for 195 yards and 5 TDs while also rushing for 1 TD and 100 yards? Yeah, he can't run 🙄

Meanwhile Stroud had a game where he went 10-26 for 38.5%, 76 yards and no TDs while rushing for 79 yards and no TDs.

Neither guy was asked to run a lot since their teams didn't use the RPO often. Young did prove repeatedly that he could scramble and dance around in the backfield with the best of them.

Not much of a runner? He ran for 100 yds and a TD in that game. Scrambling is one of the characteristics used to differentiate him from Stroud.

Go watch the replay of that game. Texas had him shut down most of the game. Refs made a lot of questionable calls too. His scrambles were slow and in the NFL he’s get eaten alive for how he played in that game. Texas would have destroyed Alabama if Ewers didn’t get hurt. Wasn’t impressed with him at all.
