Well, they can use the 2nd on a CB. We can also use the remaining funds on a CB for all I care. I just don’t think it’s smart spending more money on WR, given the contract we just gave Theilen. 
 

But, we still don’t have a #1 WR. Do we even have a receiver that can take the top off a defense?

there's no CB available better than donte jackson in the FA market so this whole discussion is pretty pointless, D Jack will need to be enough this year

I would have rather paid CGJ to be our CB2 over Adam Thielen.  Who knew it would have been cheaper 🫣.  I’m on board with the Thielen signing, but that’s a pretty ridiculous contract for him, which is the only reason he’s here and not a team like KC.  It’s only really big money this year but it’s still an overpay.

CGJ is a safety… not an outside corner.

People already saying he will be a mentor. You don't pay that kind of money for a mentor player. We need production right away. Hopefully we still add another WR either via trade or draft.

Sometimes you need safety and that’s what Thielen provides. The only WR I would have taken over him on the open market is OBJ

he played nickel corner too which we also could have used but I'd much rather have thielen than a nickel corner / additional safety especially after landing bell

He will be great for our young group plus whoever we draft. He will also provide a nice safety net with great hands for our rookie QB.

      This is what I mean. I am not some huge BY fan. I honestly don't look at QBs the way a lot of you guys do. Right or wrong, I've always looked at them as just another cog in the machine. Didn't want BY or even a trade up for a QB in 2023. We saw in the Super Bowl how important the rest of the team is on any given Sunday. Now... so PFF, who has no reason to prop up BY, says he's first in 2 stat lines and Panthers "fans" are arguing why it's either wrong or a made up stat just to make BY look good. Even though they have multiple stat lines where he's literally last in. Like 32nd in the NFL. Some he's even lower than 32. Take a step back. Try to objectively self analyze. This is just not sensible.  Same thing I see with other teams' fans and their QBs though. We analyze every single throw on every single play. For every other QB, most here are only using highlights to judge. Makes a difference. We saw Stafford miss throws when they played Carolina - both games. We saw Love throw crap up when they played Carolina. We saw Dak miss throws when they played Carolina - and Pickens was putting on a SHOW. We saw Josh Allen win a game with 163 yards passing against Carolina, but if BY does it he's crap and can't pass for 200 yards. Gents... come on.

      None of us think we're contenders this season but no reason we're doomed to 5 or 6 wins either. Dan has to have another 2025- like draft class and at least 2 key free agent signings. We're not Seattle but they don't win without 5 starters from their last 2 draft classes and Darnold and Lawrence in free agency.  Alas,  we'll have to wait one more season for a QB upgrade.
