That thread wasn’t just one throw, he cites and shows other examples. Dan Orlovsky has done the same thing on his twitter. Every qb has bad throws, ARs get magnified.

The key is what you can do consistently.

Brett Favre was a guy who could throw a pass that made you go "how the hell did he do that" then follow it up with a pass that made you go "why the hell did he do that".

Tom Brady? Certainly not as exciting a player as Favre, but amazingly consistent.

Gunslingers are certainly more fun to watch, but technicians tend to win more games.

A guy with consistent ball placement like Stroud fits the NFL mold much better.

He doesn't need to be accurate. QB's like Cam and Lamar have won MVP's despite not being the most accurate of passers. The question is does he have what it takes to be the best QB he can be.

Lamar is 1-4 in the playoffs with an average score of 13.4. what good are MVPs if you can’t win games that matter?

Accuracy is absolutely one of the most important traits a quarterback can have.

Your job isn't to throw it hard. Your job isn't to throw it far. Your job isn't to throw it fast. Your job is to throw it to a spot, and in such a way that your receiver can catch it and make a play.

A lot of analysts and former players will tell you that the "big arm" thing is heavily overrated by fans.

Super Bowl champion and 3 time MVP Brett Favre?

I'll take that, thanks.

Favre has a super bowl and is a HOF. Il take the gunslinger. Also, those throws weren’t gunslinger, they were anticipation and ball placement, nfl throws.

Favre has one, yes.

How many does Brady have?

Also FYI, I don't give a sh-t about awards. Ron Rivera has two Coach of the Year awards. You want him back?

Probably, but Richardson is the only one that excites me from this QB Draft class.

It'll be telling if they arrange a post Pro Day meal or not with him.

You're not alone so I get it. We'll see where he goes but I doubt it's top 10.  Personally I don't see a 52% college passer becoming a 65% NFL passer.

A lot of teams have front offices that would love to build a 10 win, 50/50 out on the first playoff game. It's job security. I don't blame the front office if they plan to go with the safest pick. Though it might limit the team to the pre-Burrow Bengals or current Vikings level of play.

We have the most experienced coaching staff in the league. His favorite player is Cam. We were destined for dude at #9 but taking your time with him is a hard sell when there's options that would play at a high level immediately.

I don't see it happening but man, would he be exciting. He's the most athletic QB the league has seen and it would mean our staff's confidence is through the roof.

exactly....his completion percentage in the playoffs is mid 50s. Only win was his good % game.

I have no idea what the team plans.  I do know that looking at AR, due looks like an absolute manimal.  Big, tall, fast, rocket arm.  Looks like a Madden Cheat Code.

But he's not Cam.  Cam played better in his one year of starting at Auburn versus Richardson's lone year as a starter.  That's not to take away from AR's tools, but the reality of the situation is that you can't really compare them.

Now if the coaching staff feels like they can coach AR into being a franchise QB who can be a high level passer, a guy who can elevate the team and the face of a NFL franchise for 10+ years...  Well, I'm just an idiot fan with a keyboard 😃

We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Agreed, and I don't mean this to come off as Cam slander, but it felt like so many times in his career, Olsen or whoever would make the catch cause the throw was good enough and it goes down as a completion, but had to jump or stop to make a catch. YAC is a receiver stat, but I feel like a large part of it is how good the QB is at placing it in a spot so they don't have to break stride. CJ and Bryce both seem to do this very very well.

Been see-sawing between Young and Stroud but honestly have never been as impressed with Richardson.
Yes he is very athletic. Yes he has shown traits that could indicate he can be great.
But his terrible accuracy and the fact he will be coming into a team that will want him to probably start ASAP.
He has bust written all over him.
People say trust the coaches if we draft him. As of right now the coaches haven’t done anything to earn my trust.
But if we do draft Richardson 1st the FO is pretty much putting their jobs on the line.
2023 season will be very interesting.

    • Then don't tune in. It's really not a hard concept to understand, if your making your decision based on your own personal needs/feelings as opposed to what is best for the future of the franchise, then it's a you problem, not a Panthers problem. When the season is already lost, every fan should be rooting for the same thing.  The team plays hard until the final whistle of the season and keeps improving as a team and individually, but in the end, we still come up short and lose games, and preferably because the other team beat us, not because we screwed up and found a way to lose due to our own fault. Look at it this way... If we are up 1 or 2 points with 3 seconds left in the game and the other team is lining up for a FG.  Beyond the joy of victory or the disappointment of defeat, what impact does the other team making or missing the FG have on our team the following season? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Except where we draft and what teams we play due to our finish in the division. The players and coaches on the team would have the exact same level of improvement and learnings about themselves individually and as a team whether the FG is made or missed.  The ONLY difference in the end is the record in the standings and if the win or loss number changes. If you want to argue if making the playoffs to lose in the first round or just missing them is better or worse, that's totally fair and I can at least understand the other side of it.  But in what is already a lost season, if you're not hoping your team plays well but ends up losing, then you're cutting off your nose to spite your face.  You're hoping for a moment of happiness at the detriment of the franchise's future, and in turn, you're basically then happy for a moment to only set yourself up for future further disappointment.
    • If we’re eliminated I want the wins more.   The season is already a disappointment and if I’m not pulling for wins why bother to tune in?
    • Two things terribly wrong with this post. First is that not one time has myself or anyone else agreeing with me said that the team themselves should think that way or try and lose for positioning.  Never once have I suggested the team should purposefully lose games, ever.  I honestly can't understand why people keep saying this in posts, not one fan has ever said the players should or would purposefully try to lose. And second, is yes, that has happened and it's happened very recently.  The 2020 Bengals were 4-11-1 and then were playing in the SB the very next season.   And while it might have been 2 years later and they didn't quite get to the SB, the 2021 Lions were 3-13-1 and then the 2023 Lions were up 24-7 at halftime of the NFC Championship game. The season between those two? They finished 9-8 and only just missed the playoffs. Which is why I keep trying to compare us to the Lions in where we are at in our re-build.  Throw out Bryce's rookie year with the Reich staff who just didn't work out and he looked god awful.   This past season when we were 5-12 in Canales' 1st season is that 2021 season for the Lions and their 1st season under Campbell.  This year is their 2022 where they grew a ton and Campbell's culture building was clear, where I'm saying we'd likely be better off in the long run if we go 8-9 or 9-8 and just miss out on the playoffs (which is still a significant improvement from last year).  Then our 2026 is their 2024 when we have a chance to be a real contender after adding a few more pieces and our key players having another year of experience under their belts.
