Bears close to trading to 2, then to 9 with Carolina moving up to 2: Houston felt comfortable staying at 2 because they are confident Carolina doesn’t take their guy.

I'm in the camp that think we really don't care about Houston. The "trying to get them to trade up" thing is all media. Why would they tell us who they are moving up for and why would we trade back without knowing?

We traded up for a QB. And we are staying at 1 to take one.

Here is the truth. Houston doesn’t have “a guy.” These two are so close that whoever is left will be deemed the one they wanted the entire time and their decision to stay at 2nd will be seen as prescient. Never in recorded history has a team picking 2nd overall said they wanted who went 1st but took what was left. You immediately freeze your relationship with the player as well as the fan base. There’s no gain to be made. And you can bet whoever goes 3rd was 1st on the board of the team picking there. Funny how that works.

This has to be one of the most well executed smokescreens of all time. They convinced everyone, even the Texans, that they wanted Stroud, which made the Texans comfortable staying put. Then they take Young. Beautiful.

Yea this is what I think happened. Which is, as stated, probably the greatest draft punk of all time

Take note that Houston basically sprinted to the podium as soon as we announced our pick. Sounds like they had conviction in who they wanted and were comfortable sitting at 2.

they probably wanted to hurry up and get the cardinals on the clock to pressure them into the trade wtih them... sounds like Titans and Texans were burning the Cardinals phone down to the last minute.
