imagine our two bookend corners, the sons of former NFL stars.

if I'm a Steelers fan and they pass on him today with the 32nd pick, I would absolutely rage.

I Assume that he is the 1st off the board today, but I could see them doubling down on O-line and getting Tippman at Center. Not a sexy pick, they have a young, mediocre QB to protect, and a talented C will be his new best friend.

If Mayer or Porter somehow drop to 39, I'm grabbing one.  Or Avila - probably the best G in the draft.  Too much talent to pass on.

Otherwise I try to move back 8-10 spots because what we need (CB/Edge) is pretty deep.  I think one of Ojulari, Hall, Sanders, or White will still be there around 50.  Any would be great.  My favorite is Sanders.

Then with the extra draft capital plus 93, you could probably get back to around 72-76, which is a good place to grab a corner.

I think Zavala lasts to our 4th.

Thought I would assemble a list of players the Panthers are likely to target on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.  Some will argue that some DEs are not on this list--but I think DE means "defensive tackle" and OLB is an edge.  So if the player is 285 lbs and likely is suited to be a 4-3 DE, I did not include him, even though he is called an "edge."   That means the pickings are going to be slim in rounds 2-3 for a 3-4 Edge.

Drew Sanders is a LB who can play ILB and OLB with equal ease.  I think he would fill our OLB / edge needs, so I include him as an OLB/pass rusher.

Tight Ends

·       Michael Mayer, Notre Dame (2)

·       Darnell Washington, Georgia (2)

·       Luke Musgrave, Oregon State (3)

·       Sam LaPorta, Iowa (3)

·       Tucker Kraft, South Dakota State (3)

·       Luke Schoonmaker, Michigan (3)

Wide Receivers

·       Jalin Hyatt, Tennessee (2)

·       Josh Downs, North Carolina (2)

·       Jonathan Mingo, Mississippi (2)

·       Marvin Mims, Oklahoma (3)

·       Cedric Tillman, Tennessee (3)

(Scott-Cincinnati, Dell-Houston, and Jones-Purdue might also slip into round 3)

Offensive Linemen

·       O’Cyrus Torrence (G) Florida (2)

·       Steve Avila (G) TCU (2)

·       Matthew Bergeron (T) Syracuse  (2)

·       Cody Mauch, (G) North Dakota State (2)

·       Dawand Jones, (T) Ohio State (2-3)

·       Chandler Zavala (G) NC State (3)

Cornerbacks

·       Joey Porter, Penn State (2)

·       Brian Branch (S/CB), Alabama (2)

·       Julius Brents, Kansas (2)

·       Kelee Ringo, Georgia (2)

·       DJ Turner, Michigan (2)

·       Tyrique Stevenson, Miami (3)

·       Cam Smith, South Carolina (3)

·       Darius Rush, South Carolina (3)

·       Riley Moss, Iowa (3)

·       Clark Phillips, Utah (3)

Edge (Here, I am looking at the mobile, pass-rushing specialists, not 4-3 DE’s)

·       BJ Ojulari, LSU (2)

·       Derek Hall, Auburn (2)

·       Drew Sanders, Arkansas (2)*

·       Isaiah Foskey, Notre Dame (2-3)

·       Byron Young, Tennessee (3)

·       YaYa Diabi, Louisville (3)

Bolded my faves.

Relooking at this list, Michael Mayer, Joey Porter Jr. & Brian Branch may be the only one I'd say warrant us not listening for calls at pick 39.

I'd also say Adebawore is a BIG name missing.  His name is coming up sooner than later tonight.  He's unique in being a 3-4 guy that can play in the dirt or standing.  Super athletic.

Branch is like Antonio Johnson who is entirely capable at playing NB as well as S.  Fluid defender.

I like Ojulari but he has a lack of burst that drops him from the pound-the-table list.  He reminds me of Jordan Willis some years back.  Liked him as a prospect but the lack of burst just really held him back.  He's had good moments but I'd like more star upside.  I kind of like Hall better.

Bill Musgrave's son has too many injuries for me to be excited but LaPorta or Kraft would be pretty dope.  Can see having an impact earlier than normal for a TE.

Huge Turner & Brents fan.  Would welcome either.
