The trade was for 24 and 25 first rounders. That means we would have zero pass rush until those replacements are drafted and have a season or two under their belt. That’s a long time to wait for that payoff.

Picks always look great until the picks turn into players.

Exactly. And now looking at our depth there removing Brian Burns from the equation there is no way on this earth the same folks in favor of the trade would keep quiet for 17 games while our pass rush gets abused left and right. We've all seen the gameday threads.

What about the money? Could have traded a 5th and had Z. Smith for this year while Foskey,Hall or Ojulari developed. Would still have money to spend, a vet and a rookie to replace Burns, and 2 probable top 10 picks to bargain with or use.

lol God I love this place. The Rams don't offer 2 1st and more for a "Slightly above average pass rusher".

If you think Burns is the last piece you need to have a legitimate shot at hoisting a Lombardi then you do. Super Bowl trophy is worth more than 2 1sts and a 2nd. McVay has shown he doesn’t give a poo about draft picks and will do what it takes to win now. The Rams window is about to slam shut. 2 trophies would make fans feel a lot better about not having a 1st rounder the next 3 years. Id give up pur next 3 1sts to have a couple SB wins.

What is the point of drafting good players if you are going to trade them before their 2nd contract, which outside of RBs is usually when you get the best out of said player?

The whole idea of it is dumb.  Panthers declined the trade because we have no edge defenders and would have ended up investing one of the picks in one anyway.  Teams don't often trade 24-year old pass rushers for a reason, unless they demand a trade (ie Khalil Mack).

Panthers will get a deal done with him.

When you turn down the potential haul for Burns that we declined, you send the message to Burns and his agent of his value to you. We showed all our cards with that move. Maybe we didn't realize news of it would leak? But that's honestly hard to believe. These agents are super keyed into these things with contacts in all the front offices.

Yep. When I say what we turned down my first thought was I hope we can pay him because we just signaled how much we want him.

Sorry hubby(or whatever alt you’re annoying people with now). I laid out this entire scenario multiple time the day the story broke about the offer. Predicted this exact scenario. Was told then that it wouldn’t be a problem.

Some people actually have a clue and don’t just complain about everyone stating that a franchise that picks top 10 every year makes mistakes all the time. What’s your new alt going to be after you embarrass yourself again like last year defending Rhule?

It wasn’t hindsight. We were having this exact discussion when we turned down the trade. How many different ways to replace Burns production.

People act like replacing Burns is easy, just grab another one. We won't be able to add that WR most are pining for. And most Edge rushers need at least a year. Both are things this board cannot handle. It would be anarchy watching this team struggle to win. But hey, we have those 2 1st rounders.

Hindsight being 20/20 and all that, the obvious answer was to resign Haason Reddick and take the trade bag for Burns.

Burn is right at the top tiers of pass rushers in the league, or so we keep telling ourselves. He is, without a doubt, the best we have on our team. Our underperforming team.

Retaining him is going to cost an arm and a leg and we will have to pay as if he was already in that top tier, and then hope that he gets to it. Sadly, with no one on the other side to also challenge defenses, Burns will just turn in another 10 sack season here rather than have one of those breakthrough years that we've been looking for since he came to us.

Trade him if we can, get as much as we can and free him to get those big bucks and be matched up with a teammate that will take some of the pressure off of him.

And let's be really honest here, where he might not be as big of a liability in the run defense.

Burns has all of the potential in the world to be great, but he hasn't gotten there yet. I just don't want us to mortgage our future on someone who isn't setting the league on fire already, yanno?

If he comes back and wants an average salary at the position, then yeah, if the coaches feel like he is going to make it as a OLB in a 4-3. If not, he's gotten enough attention to grab some good offers and get us some draft picks back.
