The offense with Bryce is getting worse every week

I'm sorry, but I have a hard time believing the coaching staff is dialing up 10-12 WR screens at the LOS. A few? Sure. But I think Bryce keeps checking into these screens himself. Maybe try to run the play as called and stop checking into safe throws.

It’s not that hard to believe that a team that has OL troubles with 2 backup interior guys, a struggling LT, and a OL in giving up historic rates.  Then going up against a defense that blitzes 80% of the time.  No coach is going to scheme up long drawn drop backs.  It be quick screens like that.  Sucks and I wish they could’ve been more creative with it.

But like I said in the game thread yesterday, some of yall played a lot of 7 on 7 ball and not real football growing up.

It's painful watching some fans twist and turn to create excuses to ignore this reality and ignore the fact that the passing offense (and the WRs everyone has shat on) looked wholly different last week with a QB who could threaten the defense vertically.

I mean....considering how they played against Seattle, I would say the performance by that receiving corps has remained pretty pitiful throughout.

They're subpar no doubt, but we saw some tough downfield catches in that game. Don't have the opportunity for those if the ball isn't thrown.

Wow, a rookie is struggling under pressure? Never heard that one before...

He is struggling with everything but keep pretending this is just normal stuff. The other rookies are making more of their struggles while Young looks like a guy who shouldn't have been drafted in the first round let alone the #1 pick. Lawrence struggled but looked extremally talented his rookie year with the worst HC of the decade so far, Young looks like a dud from top to bottom.

The offense is not getting worse each week. If anything, it has been remarkable how consistently vanilla, boring and conservative it's been.

Take Bryce out of the equation; Andy Dalton had to throw the ball damn near 60 times to get to 360 yards in Seattle. And the run game has been nonexistent regardless of who has been at QB.

Panthers players said Young’s problem wasn’t failing to recognize blitzes, although Wonnum believes the Vikings’ interior pressure affected Young’s field vision. “He really couldn’t step up and see what was going on,” Wonnum said. “Having those guys allowed us to work on the edge, and Harrison and all of us were able to make big plays.”

This is a problem and limitation

Timid.

The play calling is timid.

The rookie QB is playing timid.

Our defensive stars are either injured or playing timid in an attempt to not get injured before they can get out of here.

Our receivers outside of Thielen are playing timid.

And Sanders, our RB1, may be the most timid running back in the NFL.

Every week so far, we have allowed opposing teams to come into town, eat our lunches and kiss our girlfriends without saying a word.

We are whooped before we even reach the field.

I'm sorry, that falls on coaching. These guys don't have the same stones they showed when Wilks was the interim coach.

Rivera, for all of his faults, never turned out a pile of chicken salad like this. Heck, even Rhule didn't.

It hurts me to say that, but there it is. Wish I felt differently.

And Bryce isn't Claussen.

Yet.

We're 7th in the league in average yards per carry. I don't think we've been committed enough to the run on the play calling but it isn't due to complete lack of effectiveness. We're 26th in the league in run attempts. We're one of only two teams averaging 4.5+ YPC that is in the bottom half of the league in attempts.

The other rookies have weapons and a competent coaching staff around them. Bryce has the pressure of a #1 pick, with mid-tier receivers, and a incompetent offensive coaching staff. The other rookies have different things around them that affect their development. And Bryce has been making some nice reads most of the time, when the receivers are open to him. Not saying BY is amazing, he has his struggles, but we are just going through growing pains with a rookie QB.

And with Trevor, TLaw really sucked his rookie year. Idk why everybody acts he had something his rookie year, but his play has horrible, didn't even look like a #1 pick. He threw 12 Tds and 17 Ints, and had a 59.6 Cmp rate. Obviously it was due to Meyer, but he even sucked for the first half of the season last year. He only started getting his rhythm for the 2nd half of last year. Don't act like rookie struggles are a new thing.

What games are ya'll watching...

Our offense yesterday was a screen, run, screen -- then mix that order up.

Right now I'm looking at the play calling, and lack of attempts downfield, the offense Bryce came from in college had plenty of vertical elements to it.

We are NOT even trying to throw deep; operationally Bryce has looked the part, he has saved downs where pressure got to him quickly scrambled for conversions, and has been accurate.

Personally, I wanted Richardson due to the upside ''if he puts it all together'' but I'm also not going to ignore that even with this poo show of an offense it is somehow on Bryce.

We went from a team whose strength was running the ball to literally just straight gut runs...no perimeter runs, we just look like we are still calling a pre-season offense.

If you can't see that and are blaming Bryce you're wrong, even in the SEA game it was a similar offense, we just passed it 58 times...Bryce threw 38, and 33 times in Weeks 1, and 2.

Our offensive scheme with Reich at the helm currently sucks....we bring in a McVay staff offensive mind in Brown, and the formations/plays look noting like what the Rams do.

We were in Trips and Wing Stack formations all game, no reverses, no misdirection on runs, no sweeps etc.

Just line up and snap it as we have barely have 7 secs on the play-clock when breaking the huddle.

lol he’s talking about the interior rush; a QB doesn’t step up to see the field, he steps back.

You couldn’t have named a WR on Houston or Indy before the season started. Hell, Houston has been missing Tunsil for weeks. Houston is also down a few other starters on the OL. Indy was a complete mess last year and their star RB is sitting out. Spare us the other rookies have weapons excuse.

For the love of god people Bryce isn’t Manning or Lawrence. Those guys have arms and physical attributes that Young will never have. Their mistakes came from taking shots and eventually they figured it out.

Young didn’t even bother to add size this offseason. The one thing he had full control over he didn’t do. Instead he showed up at 180. He’s now been chased down twice and fumbled twice. That crap absolutely cannot happen.

    • Velocity MPH. Okay, that’s a number in isolation. what if CJ has a nice 85% effort motion that does what he is looking for? And Young has to step into things to get even 2 mph behind him?  I don’t KNOW that about either it is just an example of numbers don’t always tell all, but when I look at Young throw it reminds me of someone like Fran Tarkenton. A throwback non athletic weak armed scrambler for those of you who don’t remember. Had a great career in the old smaller slower but much meaner NFL. Would not today, IMO.  I think the arm strength questions, are plenty fair. And the eyeball test, it does mean something. Who would take Bryce Young over CJ Stroud or Richardson based on his arm? It is obvious to the naked eye where they stack up.
    • Jarvis gets the first and the game winner!
    • Somehow win tonight and this series has a good chance to go 7 where anything can happen. will be an extremely tough test tonight though, probably the toughest game of the entire Rod era. Personally I'd go with Koochie but it'll prob be Freddie. Expecting a loss tonight so I don't get upset if it happens, but if we did somehow do the impossible and reverse sweep these fugers it'll be the happiest I've been about sports maybe ever (wasn't following the canes closely for our cup win otherwise that's obviously #1). Making the SB in '15 is up there right now but this could surpass that, especially if we can continue the run into the cup finals
