Start Andy for what reason? To try to compete? At 0-5 the season is lost and we don't have the talent or guts to rattle of a string of wins and try to make a post-season run. Start Bryce the rest of the way and let's see if he's got any fight in him.

The absolute worst thing we can come away from a crappy season with is uncertainty. By the end of this god-awful, forgettable, and hopefully uncharacteristically bad year, I want to know if Bryce is the future, or if he was a misstep, and we need to start over again.

Starting Andy, and just leaving us with questions as to whether or not Bryce "has it" leads to just another wasted off-season and sets us up for another lost year.

It's tough, and we've definitely thrown Bryce in the deep end with weights on his ankles. But that's the situation. Now it's time to sink or swim.

I believe in the Sales principle of "Get to No as quickly as possible." In the NFL it's get to "Bust" as quickly as possible. If Bryce can be "ruined" then we don't need to invest in him any further. The league isn't ideal, so we don't need a QB who need a perfect situation in order to be successful.

I see the merits in both arguments

We definitely did not think we would be setting up the possibility of Chicago getting two picks inside the top 5 (or even the top 2) when we made the Bryce Young deal. A competent franchise should be able to use their own picks and the additional ones they received from us to build a perennial contender in the NFC for the rest of the decade. Our only source of comfort is the history of the Chicago Bears. They are a mediocre franchise who in all likelihood will not significantly improve with those extra draft choices. And, we should be more concerned with getting Bryce on the right track instead of trying to stick it to the Bears.

We gave up a lot to get Bryce. We need to see what he can do since we have to roll with him the next couple of seasons. More playing time should get him better acclimated with:

1) The speed of the game

2) The myriad of pass coverages around the NFL

3) The route running of his receivers

4) The tight passing windows in the league

5) The timing and touch needed to push the ball down the field.

A lot of great QB's struggled during their rookie seasons (Bradshaw and Aikman immediately come to mind since both went on to lead dynastic teams in the decade that defined their careers)

Bryce has nowhere to go but up in his career trajectory. We need to see what he can do. But, if we can't finish with 6-7 wins by seasons end Tepper may have to make some major changes in the FO and on the coaching staff.

And let's face it, you can't coddle a kid you take #1 and trade the barn for.  

Didn't happen to Trevor, Burrow, Kyler, Baker, Winston, Newton, Luck, Stafford, the list goes on.  

Goff is the only guy at #1 who didn't have the same deal but he was on the bench to begin the year behind Keenum for the Fisher's 7-9-athon staff.  Word was Fisher didn't really want him, wanted Wentz or a vet.  Many felt they traded up and reached for a guy that wasn't pro ready, the opposite of what we apparently picked Young for.  (By the way, the 15 to #1 comp seems like peanuts to what we gave up, but that was like2015). So, they eventually bring in McVay, the team looks completely different the next season, they were in the SB by his third season under a rockstar coach and rebuilt squad. 

The other example is J Russell/Oakland who I don't think we want to be comparing our situation to as he was a monumental bust and they ended up moving the team lol.

We cannot do this to Young and hope we stumble into a Rams situation.

The flip side is this team needs the 33rd pick more than the 38th pick. 
 

The trade is laughable either way. Pain.

      I know it's only been training camp and one preseason game, but I think T-Mac has already shown his floor to be exactly what I said about him in the pre-draft process. That his floor if he never improves his game, is as one of the best #2 WRs in the NFL, if not even still a low end #1 (i.e. a 25th-ish best WR in the league). I think it's safe to say he's already established himself as our #1, and there are only a small handful of teams in the league where I don't think he'd be their starting #2 WR in Week 1. Bengals (Higgins), Dolphins (Waddle), Eagles (Smith), Bucs (Godwin if healthy), Rams (Adams) are really the only teams where I think he'd be the #3 as a rookie in Week 1.  A few others like the Lions (Williams), Bears (Odunze), Seahawks (Kupp), Commanders (Deebo), where he'd be the 2b to start the season, just because they're vets and/or already have a year or two of experience with their team/QB. And even having said that, I think by year 2, he's better than every one of those players (And no, I'm not saying he's already going to be better than a prime version of Adams, just whatever he'll be at 33 next year), and same goes for Kupp, but that's more because it seems like his body might be quitting on him in a way that hasn't happened to Adams (yet).

      Well to be fair, Horn not practicing right now to let his stitches heal up from a car accident isn't something that should be concerning.  Sure, you don't want him missing practice leading into the season, but it's one that once healed, won't have lingering affects or fear of re-injuring it, it was just bad luck.

      Quality backups are absolutely important. This franchise has been plagued with depth problems. That said, there is a little bit of dismay that Mays can't beat out a 1-legged man, and all the talk going into the off-season was how BC would certainly be gone since he had position versatility.  In the end, it doesn't matter too awfully much, as I would be shocked to no end if Corbett makes it through the season. We know what we have in reserve, and that should surely be better than trying to sign random fat guys mid season to try and take over.
