Bryce Young is very similar to Drew Brees but Panthers nation should be patient

Not with all the self imposed meltdowns we have. Weak O.L. And killing every drive with penalties. It appears this team is not well coached, fundamental errors.

Most of the meltdowns were Bryce's.  Fumbles and picks in ATL, NO, and today.  That's 3 wins alone.  If Dalton wins the Texans game too, we're sitting at what?  4-4?

Drew Brees' career was likely made by the change in illegal contact in 2004. He blew up right after that change. Not being able to rough up receivers and being forced to let them run free allowed his best traits to shine.

The YPA going up so much also had to do with the system change.  But what was unlocked in him was not some common thing you can unlock in any draft pick.  Brees had placement, touch, and an uncanny ability to stay on the field even when they weren't really moving the ball.  Got 1st down after first down until they could crack a defense.

What I'm seeing rookie to rookie is comparable YPA and stat wise, and they have similar sizes, but it's pretty different.  Bryce doesn't press into 1 on 1 coverage with over the shoulder throws like Brees did.  When there wasn't anything there, Brees tried to figure out the layering and deeper placements. Really drove when things weren't even there and it wasn't always pretty.  But that's how he learned.

Rookie to rookie just isn't an apples to apples comparison at all given the different eras though. This is a MUCH more pass happy league with the rules to match than the one Drew Brees was drafted into.

Yeah that's true.  Crazy to think early 00s to 10s is another era ago, but I think we're at that point ha.

Holy poo, just stop.  Bryce has NOTHING to do with Drew Brees!  Do you have any clue how many QBs have had awful rookie seasons and went on to just be awful?  A helluva lot more than Drew Brees.  The only reasons you mouth breathers even compare him to Brees is because they’re both short!  Jokes on you though because BY9 is eye level with Drew’s mouth.

That change in illegal contact changed everything. It made some careers and it ended some careers. Ricky Manning Jr. was basically turned into a CB that wasn't NFL roster caliber overnight.

    • Not only was the XL exchange just absolutely horrid, but this????  Forgive me, as I know it’s not PC, but is Newton legitimately retarded?  What a fuging idiot!!!  You want Evero to tell you he sprinkled some magic fairy dust on him, just for last week, to give him some super pass rushing powers?  Or may be shoved a fuging infinity stone up his ass?  Maybe held his family ransom?  Just shut the absolute fug up, you fuging idiot.  And to not ask once.  Not twice.  But three fuging times, trying to force Evero into a different answer.  I really wish someone would punch him in his fuging mouth.     and there was absolutely no excuse for the question to XL.  You could see his eyes start to get red and glassy.  Newton is a fuging tool.  You have one job you fuging idiot, and whether you don’t remember or you just don’t know, then maybe you need to find a new line of work.  fuging weirdo.
    • Yep, that's all them Bryce fans can do, trying to remind everybody of his bygone glory days in college. Who gives poo? What's he done for the Panthers lately? I can't wait for these Bama fans to leave the forum once we get rid of their favorite midget. They are almost annoying as The Golden Calf of Bristol fans.
    • I'm too old to answer most of those questions, but I've lived in Winston off and on for the last 5 years and I enjoy it. Easy to live close to the city and still feel like your not in a city or vise versa.
