Article: Brian Burns on playing without an extension in 2023: 'I was terrified to get hurt'

wonder if some team in the top 10-15 picks would trade their 1st for him

I honestly think a late 1st is probably about the ceiling for Burns and I'm not sure we could get that. I just think some contender at the back of the 2st might see him as a piece that could put them over the top, but would that be with a late 1st AND a huge contract? I don't know about that.

I mean he's better than most late first rounders or early seconds. They'll never get 2 firsts and a second again. Very few non-QBs are actually worth that and the Panthers should have taken it just on merit. Oh well. Burns isn't a bad player. He's a freakish athlete. But he'll never be elite. You don't pay elite money to pretty good players. That's how you get a team into cap hell.

You can get top receivers anywhere in the draft look at Tank Dell,P Nauca ect just have to pick the right ones....

A guy like Troy Franklin could easily be there

You can say that about any position.  You play the odds though, the longer you wait the chances of your pick actually being any good goes down significantly.

Honestly, after hearing that, I want nothing to do with re-signing him now, tag and trade him for whatever we can get and move on.

If he was that afraid of playing hurt, he should have either held out or signed the extension, it says a lot about him and I'm sure it affected his play, which wasn't great.

If he wants to sign for LESS than $20 a season, then sure, I'll take him back.  But if he wants a penny over 20, I have zero interest after hearing this, we need the draft picks and cheap contracts more right now, this team is in an entire rebuild.

    • Yeah I think he's just talking continuity it's not really an endorsement. Also I would think CarolinaHuddle of all places would understand using "we" for the team you follow. I can't STAND when dorks do the "Oh so you play for them then? Hurr hurr"
    • Kon is a damn stud but it’s not any individual player’s team. All of the “big 3” are incredibly and equally important IMO. And LaMelo makes Kon way better (look at his shooting splits with LaMelo on the floor vs without. Also Moose and even Miles are important cogs. Honestly think we’re 1 piece away from being legit top contenders if the young guys continue to develop the next year or two. I trust this FO to be patient to find that piece within the next 2-3 years and not force anything. Plenty of time and even without adding anyone we have the pieces in place overall already to compete with any team.
    • We lost 2 very close and winnable games against top teams in the league while missing 3 critical players despite 2 of our top 3 players shooting unusually terribly. Still split the 4 games that Moose and Miles were suspended, winning the most important one vs the Hawks. This ain’t yo mama’s Hornets man. Hopefully Coby can go soon but even if not Moose and Miles are huge additions for our starting lineup and bench rotations. Schedule is pretty tough after these next 4 but I think we’ll take care of business the next 4 to get to .500 then finish slightly above .500 after that to get a 7 or 8 seed. Keep it rolling boys. Also Kon is having an insanely historic rookie season as a shooter. Like truly can’t believe my eyes watching this kid level of historic. Man what a fuging home run of a draft pick and exactly what this team needed to take that next step forward. He’s gonna shatter the rookie 3 point and franchise 3 point records. Has a real chance to be the 2nd best 3 point shooter ever or dare I say even get to Curry’s level (as a pure shooter, Curry obviously has way more to his game that has made him a GOAT).
