Assistant Coach Chatter

Brad Idzik spent four years as an offensive assistant at Stanford, three of those years were actually with McCaffrey.

Oddly enough, this past year Canales used Rachaad White in a similar fashion to the way McCaffrey was used by us (and the 49ers).

Only McCaffrey and Breece Hall had more receiving yards from the running back position than White and only McCaffrey, Hall, and Kamara had more receptions than White.

Have to wonder if the Panthers will target a pass catching RB in the draft (Bucky Irving, Will Shipley, Blake Watson, etc.) or in free agency (Antonio Gibson) as that seems to be a part of Canales’ game plan.

Evero has only been a DC for two seasons.  One here and one at Denver.  It would be in his best interest to stay here and build upon his successes.  Honestly, imagine what he could do without such bad injury luck.  No way we are this unlucky in regard to injuries two seasons in a row.

If he keeps the defense consistent or shows improvement he will be a HC during the next cycle.

With a better offense he can lead a stellar defense.  Still a few holes though including MLB and Edge…assuming guys stay healthy

I thought he was known as a good o-line coach, but maybe not?

He generally is, he was just scapegoated a few years back by Seahawks fans and management mostly due to struggles brought on by Wilson's atrocious pocket presence. Afterwards he put together a solid OL after the Raiders cut half their starters and has been generally well regarded pretty much everywhere else.

FYI

There was a picture taken in October 2023 that shows Drew Lock working in an empty hotel ballroom with quarterbacks coach Kerry Joseph reviewing calls and routes before the game. 📸   While we know how well he contributed to the Geno Smith resurrection,  Lock stepped in when Smith was injured late in the 2023 season and completed 71% of his passes (2 TDs vs 2 Ints) vs. the Niners in a loss.  He then completed 66% of passes (2 TDs, 1 Int) in a win against the Eagles.  To me, the fact that he had the backup prepared says a lot.  Joseph had a 19 year career in professional football (CFL) as a QB before that.  Could he be the guy?

    • Every NFC team that we needed to lose today won
    • That's a good point.
    • I actually had some extra money and decided to do something I've never done before...I put 100$ on the panthers.  If I lose, eh whatever, but the absolute complete disrespect is just kinda surprising.  Things to consider. Panthers have won their last 3 road games After an abysmal start on the road, the panthers have won the last 3, granted game 1 was against the Jets, but the other 2 were solid road victories, one being the Packers and one being the Falcons and while some may dismiss Atlanta due to the record, that was their legit final gasp at life and a loss essentially killed their season and putting a team away in a make or break game is always difficult. The 9ers havent been great at home The 9ers are 7-4 on the season but even with that record they are 5-2 on the road and only 2-2 at home and even that is kind of missing the home road split more.  They beat a rough atlanta team at home 20-10 and a 1 point win against a pretty bad cardinal team (yes I know we lost to them). Stopping making 49ers 1 Dimensional I think we're all aware of the weaknessess the panthers have how we are potentially to be exposed by Kittle and CMC.  those are VERY viable critiques.  However, thats in the passing game, but the 9ers are 6th worst at running the ball, they arent a great team between the tackles, and as such our front should be able to stop that middle of the field and make everything go outside which is where having Moerig in a Buffalo Nickel will help.   Before people poo on me, Im not all sunshine pumping, I VERY WELL could see us lose this game, and maybe even get embarrassed, HOWEVER there is a lot to like about our potential.  For playoffs this game has a ton of meaning and You have to know the team knows that, a loss hear loses a tie breaker with a team potentially for the last spot.  They will be focused and I didnt even mention the homecoming of sorts for Bryce and Tmac who are gonna wanna show out back in Cali. Summation, panthers win 30-24
