Justin Fields traded for bag of chips, why couldn’t we get Gerber competition?

So now we pivot to not starting the first overall pick we traded for. The Huddle would have shititspants

There is no shame anymore in these debates.

Who gives a poo about if he's the first pick or not. He's either the best QB to start or he isn't. If he's not giving you the best chance to win, his butt needs to be on the bench.

Playing a QB that isn't ready does nothing but hurt your team.

He’s not a good QB.  Period.  Sorry that hurts fee fees.

I mean, Bryce looked horrible.  We should have spent a 6th on him.   He is better that whoever our 3rd QB will be.

Steelers acquired Wilson and Fields for less than we spent on Sam Darnold.  It’s what they have won every season for a decade plus and we are the worst in all pro sports.

they do smart things.

Fields, Pickett, and Howell all had better rookie grades and have had higher ceiling plays than BY. None of them have dipped near Bryce's 56 pff grade on any season. Don't be surprised if he has another clanker that we get a 6th for him, not even conditional, just a 6th or release him to the Manning passing academy or for some reason he'll get a media job like multiple QB busts

Some people still can't comprehend that if fields were any good he wouldn't have been traded in the first place?

Filed under ‘what goes around comes around’. By the same token if Bryce were any good they'd have used the pick themselves.

It's not like Fields went into an ideal situation, unlike what Caleb Williams will be going into.  How good would Fields look if the Niners had drafted him instead of trading up for Lance?  Fields is better than you think.

Caleb walking into DJ, Allen, Swift is what the Panthers should have done for Bryce

Fine points, but I’m not mad we didn’t trade for a backup.  We all know they aren’t giving up on the munchkin.

Fields wouldn’t get us where we want to go so ultimately pointless.

Damn, you guys want to go through the Darnold situation again while we already have a young guy under contract?

As soon as we trade for him we'd have to choose to pick his 5th year option up. Then if (when) he sucks, you owe him all that money like Darnold, or you don't sign him and you rent him as a backup for a year and let him walk which would be pointless.

Yeah, they traded a 6th rounder for a one year rental backup guy. I wouldn't hage even bothered wasting a 6th on that.

They probably just wanted to get a look at him to see if he is worth a developmental contract once next season is over. The price is right for that sort of move.

He isn't going to win us anything if Bryce goes down. Nor is Bryce going to learn anything from him. A veteran QB makes way more sense in our scenario.

Well the league thinks he is worth a 6th rounder.

I think that's about right. He is a 6th round caliber QB.

Fields may not hage had ideal conditions but he never progressed over three years. That's basically Sam Darnold. He is who he is.

Yeah, never understood the hype with this guy. He's not terrible, but you aren't winning it all with him. Why waste your time once you know that? Same can be said with Bryce if he doesn't show significant improvement this year.

He would look like absolute garbage in shanahan's offense because he can't read the field and pull the trigger in a timely manner.

Granted, he could have been coached better in SF and therefor looked better, but as things stand now he just isn't a starting QB in the league.

    • I can say that I have defended Canales because I get that they are doing all they can to keep from looking like idiots for drafting Bryce, from the trade up to signing $150m guards to drafting XL and Brooks etc---nothing seems to work.  And Hiring Canales was part of the Bryce Young rehab program, so so he can't really decide to "move on."  That has to come from Morgan and Tepper. Personally, I think Bryce is due for an injury.  He is small, he is not thick, and he has been a LOT more healthy than most any other QB has who has endured so much pressure.  The thing that bothers me is this---Bryce really does not go through his progressions quickly.  He locks on to his presnap read and stays locked onto him for too long--he seems to fail to anticipate the WR/TE's positioning on the play before the cut--for example, if the WR is running a dig and the CB has his back to the inside of the field, he should be open for a second or less just after the cut.  He seems to wait until the cut has been made before deciding, then checking down quickly while moving in the pocket. OL:  There seems to be a lack of communication--is that on Mays?  Watch this team presnap--they seem a bit confused at times.   I can almost predict the success rate of the play by watching the center and QB before the snap.
    • Anyone else remember back in 2010 when Fox piloted having music under the in-game replays during one of Carolina's games? Not the commercial bumpers but the actual replay clips that the announcers would talk over. Pretty sure it was vs the 49ers. And it was terrible. Point being, Carolina continues being so bad that we get the networks trying things out during their games.
    • Is it bad I found this video more hilarious than pathetic? I am still laughing at that one play where half the people on the field ran into each other and Bryce still couldn't see Chuba wide open... Also laughing at Cade blocking nobody and somehow losing his cleat Man this offense is a poo show
