I would rather get middle of the pack OGs in free agency and trade for TEs that are underutilized in their current offense. Paying top money to free agents is a bad strategy IMO.

TE is just a hard position to hit on.

This. It's why the Greg Olsen trade was one of the best in franchise history.

Having said that, TE is also not a position you generally see players come right out of college and perform at a high level at. Even guys like Kelce, Kittle, Goedert, etc. took time to become impact players.

He was a drop away from having an Int during his very short amount of time on the field against total prevent defense.  Not even sure how he registers with such little playing time.

But we've already seen this. That was the justification for giving him a free pass in the first half of his rookie season. Those losses that were over by the 4th quarter he put together a few decent drives when the opposing D was playing prevent. We obviously know how the rest of that storyline played out. It is completely understandable that anyone would be highly skeptical of more of that now.

XL and Wallace are looking good here. We need to hit on these draft picks. Hopefully Brooks will look good. I’m not too worried about JT because tight ends usually take a couple years… Gives us something to build on plus DB coming back.

I saw something in him during preseason, but that was preseason--I think he has the tools and I assume they will be fine until they prove they aren't.   I get your point, but right now, if we were Chief fans, we'd be saying that about players. Instead, we are waiting for the next bust and injury.

Pretty much. I think his hype got a little out of control but it's a position we have needed an upgrade at for a while now. Like you said a project in the 4th isn't bad like in the first and second.

FIX FUGG'N TE POSITION!!! And no, taking a dude who "dropped" to the 4th round in a sh*t TE class save the top guy, isn't going to do the trick. 

I'll even take a FA at this point. I wonder if the Raiders would swap Young for Mayer straight up?
